Barbara: The Charles T. Sackett m. Phebe Baldwin is #3808 in Weygant's book. Weygant has no information beyond the fact that Charles was married to two Baldwin women, probably sisters. So if you would send me a copy of the document it will help extend that line a little bit. Brahma bulls around the house This story comes from some of my earlier memories when I was about 4 years old. We were living in the house where I had been a proud owner of a doll until Dad's boss, Tom Brannon, had told me that big boys don't play with dolls. Tom's son had made a deal to pasture the rodeo stock during the rodeo in Marietta. But he did not inform his father that he had made the deal. The first Mother knew about it was when trucks arrived and dropped the brahma bulls in the pasture around the house. There was no fence around the house so the bulls were able to come right up to the house. And because the bulls were dropped in the pasture during the day, while Donal was at school. Mother was not able to get from the house out to the mail box. And as the time drew near for Donal's bus to drop him off Mother grew more and more frantic. She couldn't leave the house and she was sure that the bulls would kill Donal when he came across the pasture from school. Then she saw the bus let Donal off. Donal started across the pasture with Mother yelling at him, trying to tell him about the danger. Just at that time Dad's boss came driving in from the south. Tom did not see Donal because Donal was coming straight from the gate to the house and not following the looping road. Tom drove back and picked up Donal from near the creek and brought him safely home. Then Tom went to see his son! The next day the rodeo stock was removed from the pasture. During the roundup of the rodeo stock, there was a brindle bull that jumped out of the corral clearing the six-foot fence in the process. Dad took us to the rodeo and I only remember two things about it. There was a white bull that threw its rider as it came out of the chute and the brindle bull, that cleared the fence out at our house, threw its rider. Then when the clown made a dive into his barrel to escape the bull, it hit the barrel so hard it knocked the clown out of the barrel. Then the bull almost got the clown as he made a dive through the fence. Thurmon

Mehitable (Cadwell) Dewey Sacket In the information generated in response to Fred's question about the identity of "Mehitable Sackett date of burial 1829" has shown that there is a disagreement concerning her date of death and her age. Assuming that the dates have been transcribed correctly, we have: The Dewey Genealogy gives the dates for Mehitable as b. 7 Dec 1740; d. 19 Nov 1829 at age 88. Rollin H. Cook "Pittsfield Families" Vol.9 S-V, pg 114, gives Mehitable's dates as b. 7 Dec 1740 and d. 19 Nov 1829. Vital Records compiled by Rollin H. Cooke gives the date of Mehitable's death as 18 Nov 1829 at age 87 It appears that Mehitable's age was 87 yrs 11 mo and 11 or 12 days. ------ Sources ------ DEWEY GENEALOGY AND FAMILY HISTORY. Rich Text worked for Zavan's son, Rolin/Roland/Hollin/Rollin. So will try this in rich text. If you have the following information pls forgive the redundancy. Baptismal record: Westfield MA Church of Christ Baptisms: Sacket Zavan s. In previous notes to the List I summarized obituaries of his sons from the various local Crawford co newspapers. If anyone wants the references of those papers, I will be glad to provide. Dianne Cobb

Hi! This is to inform you that Bill and Nancy (Cluff) Siders' email address changed from <siders@trailnet.com> to <siders@cableone.net> effective today. We will be able to receive email from the Trailnet address through July since we pay 6 months at a time. Hopefully I will have all of my multitude of genealogy-related subcriptions changed by that time. ;) In order to obtain a faster Internet connection, we grabbed at the chance to secure a cable modem from Cable One the first day it opened up. Nothing else has been available until now. We thought at first we had a couple months to get all the email addresses changed but "sending email" is all or nothing with cableone.net. So to give you a little heads up, this message is to inform you that any email you may receive from Bill or I from home will be coming from our <siders@cableone.net> address. Why Mothers Turn Gray When Dad went to work for Rose Ranch he was paid $1.00 per day for working 7 days per week, from daylight to dark [from can see to can't see]. As a result of his work, we didn't get to see much of Dad. It was quite an occasion when Dad was grazing the sheep in the vicinity of the house and was able to be around the house part of the day. But the occasion also gave an indication of a problem that resulted from Dad not being around when us kids were awake. Dad had to correct my younger brother, Quindel, who was about 2 years old. And in the process he spanked him. When Dad left to drive the sheep back to their corral for the night; Quindel told Mother: "I don't like that old man, 'cause he whipped me!" So, when Mother told that to Dad he decided to herd the sheep in the pasture near the house at least once a week so that he could be around the house some during the day. In the winter following our move to the house on Rose Ranch we had a storm that gave us snow covered with sleet and freezing rain. The next morning, Dad started to go to work but couldn't make it up the hill in front of the house. Mother told us that after he slid down the hill and hit the house a couple of times he wrapped his boots in brulap bags before he could get enough traction to make it up the hill and go on to work. After we got up in the morning, Donal and I were trying to slide down the hill but couldn't get anything to slide and control very well. Finally Donal found an old cotton seed fork with no handle. These forks are about as wide as a snow shovel and have tines about 12"- 16" long and spaced about an inch apart. The place where the handle fits on also has a metal point about 3 inches long. Donal decided that the seed fork would make a good sled ... And it did !! He went sliding down the hill, past the house and almost to the creek. This worked great until we slid down the hill and hit the side of the house. This drove the point for the handle into the side of the house. While we were working to get the seed fork free from the side of the house ... Mother came out to see what had hit the side of the house and saw what we were using as a sled ... She "threw a fit" took it away from us. Narrow minded mothers! They just don't want any one to have any fun. -- ThurmonAccurate Information Is Our Goal. __________________________________________________________________Try AOL and get 1045 hours FREE for 45 days!http://free.aol.com/tryaolfree/index.adp?375380 Get AOL Instant Messenger 5.1 for FREE! A Different Kind of Fish Story: From the Dewey Genealogy [In Weygant's book, Zelotes Dewey is #1399, son of Asaph Dewey and Penelope Sackett]: 6672. ZELOTES DEWEY, son of Asaph, b. (???), 1785, at Richmond, Mass.; d. Dec. 30, 1843, at Deerfield, N. Y., where he was one of the first settlers, made a clearing and built a log house; was a man of indomitable courage and perseverance; was obliged to travel ninety-six miles to Albany to market his produce, the trip occupying three days. Wolves were plenty and furious in the woods surrounding his home, sometimes attacking and killing his cattle and sheep. On one occasion, as he was returning from the then small village of Utica, traveling by way of marked trees, which was the only road, Page 669 a pack of wolves followed him, being attracted by the smell of fish, of which he had purchased a quantity that day. To save his own life and that of his horses became his one thought. As the wolves came nearer he threw out some of the fish and then drove on as fast as possible, thus placing a greater distance between them. After devouring the fish the wolves followed on again, when he would throw out more, and so reached home in safety, but without the barrel of fish with which he started. ...
Someone was looking for Denison in New Haven, maybe Ruth. I had occasion to visit Grove cemetery and they had several listings. Most were from the 1800's but a few were from the late 1700's. The ones from 1700's are probably stones brought to the cemetery(without the remains)since there first internment was in 1797. There were too many to copy by hand but the superintendent is coping them and will have them ready Thursday or Friday. Tom Smith

Also the Social Security Death Index has an Emery Sackett, died Mar 1979 Residence: Leavittsburg, Trumbull Co., Ohio Born: 3 Jun 1908 SS card issued in Michigan before 1951 If you think this is your man, You can order a copy of the SS5 application form from Freedom of Information Officer 4-H-8 Annex Building 6301 Security Blvd Baltimore, MD 21235 You include the name, SS #, & date of death on your request and $29 (unfornately SS decided to ask for this fairly large sum to cut down the number of requests for the SS 5 form for a copy of this form. This asks for the parents names, date of birth, residence and occupation They will send an abbreviated printout for $16 but I don't know what information is included would assume most of the pertinent information, and wouldn't have his signature. There us a FTM file with an Emery on Disk 9 but I don't have that. Maybe someone else has it. RootsWeb who runs the listserv for our discussion list does not show who all might be copied on a message so fearing that you might not know that messages on SACKETT-L are not forwarded to the SACKETT Message Board, I forwarded your message below to the dsackett@lehman.com and invited he/she to join us on SACKETT-L. If you haven't already been to our web page and read the brief intros from our subscribers as examples of what to include, please do visit it at the URL below*. You must also be wondering what all the discussion on The Sackett Family Association is all about. I'll be happy to send you a survey if you are interested and explain it if you haven't gotten the substance from recent messages. If there is any thing else I can do to help you, just ask!
