I remember seeing a little "sentence sermon" which said: "Speak in haste and you'll make the prettiest speach you'll ever regret." When Louella provided us with the 1860 census data for Roscoe, Goodhue Co., MN which showed a William Sackett, Simon Sackett and Aldon [Orlin] in consecutive households; I made a comparison of their ages with the ages of the males in the household of Zelotas Sackett in Ontario Co., NY and announced my "grand theory" that the three were borthers. Well ... I was wrong. When we found them in the 1880 census; William in NE and Simon in MN we found that they both gave the birthplace of their father as VT while William said his mother was born in PA and Simon said his mother was born in NY. Louella also found William in the 1850 census in Warren Co., IL. I did some searching in the records of IL and found that William was married in St. Clair Co., IL: Illinois Statewide Marriage Index, 1763-1900 SACKETT, WILLIAM/ TALBOT, ELIZABETH 08/30/1838 / 380 ST. CLAIR Now, St. Clair Co., IL is where Reuben Sackett from Vermont was located along with his son Myron who, in 1880, gave the birthplaces of his parents as; Father: VT; Mother: PA as did aonther individual, Henry Sackett who gave the same information for the birthplaces of his parents in the 1880 census. So, it now appears that William and Simon Sackett who were in Roscoe, MN in 1860 were not closely related to Orlin Sackett who was their neighbor. Thurmon

Thurman, the printed index for the 1850 census is incorrect the indexer misread the name of Ashman. When reading the census it is quite clearly Ashman, age 20 in the household of Claudius. But we are not able to determine whether or not they were related to Orlin Sackett because there is no place of birth given for either parent of Orlin in the 1880 census.

(Sackett) Barnes which gives an account of their move to NE in 1871. This is located at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nemerric/olres/Barnes/auld1.htm So, although the 1870 census indicates that they were enumerated in Bushnell, McDonough, Illinois; the account by Mrs. Barnes says that the move was made from MN to NE taking two months. I am a Sackett Family Historian working with the SACKETT-L@rootsweb.com and with The Sackett Family Association (TSFA) in an effort to document as many Sackett descendants as possible. So, I would be interested in all the information you can give me for the descendants of Orlin Sackett. Gail's original message concerned some information I have on the Sacketts of America website in which I had erroneously listed Mina Schofield as the 2nd wife of Orlin Sackett. I have received information from several descendants of Orlin Sackett and the first listing I received for his wives was 1) Sarah Stevens and 2) Mandy Dans. Since then I have received information which appears to indicate that these names are questionable. The cemetery records for Fairview Cemetery, Naples, Ontario Co. NY has a listing for: Lucinda Sackett Wife of Orlin Died Oct 1856 Age 29-10-6 So I thought that maybe his wife's name may have been Sarah Lucinda Stevens, or Lucinda Sarah Stevens. Then Pam supplied me with the death certificate for George Steven Sackett, Orlin's son by Lucinda, in which George's wife, states that the maiden name of George's mother was Johnson, "to the best of my knowledge, Pheoby Sackett." So, then, if Phebe was right in her information, the surname of Orlin's 1st wife was Johnson. This would mean that her name was Lucinda Johnson rather than Sarah Stevens. [NOTE: George's death crtificate gives the name of his father as Orland while all the other records I have seen give his name as either Orlen, or Orlin with it spelled Aldon in the 1860 census.] If there is source information to show that his 1st wife was indeed Sarah Stevens it will certainly be welcome. The headstone transcription for Lucinda indicates that she died in Oct 1856 which would mean that Orlin probably did not move to MN until after her death. The question would be; "Why is Orlin Sackett listed in this family Bible?" A transcription of a letter written June 5, 1893 by Isaac Hanscom from Maine to his niece, Sarah (Hanscom) Ward [sister of Ann Elizabeth Hanscom] has this "... and tel me all about them and Mrs an Sacket and family and Mrs Lawrence and the rest of them ..." Mrs. Lawrence is Sarah's sister Nancy. These two items seem to indicate that Orlin's 2nd wife was Ann Elizabeth Hanscom, born in Maine. It is our desire to have accurate information; so we would be interested in any source material available that shows that Orlin Sackett was married to Mandy "Maude" Damm/Dans. Based on Census records of Roscoe Minnesota with, a Orlin Sackett wife Ann E.____a family Bible naming a Orlin Sackett, as well as family letters etc...which I feel supports that this Ann could have been the second wife of this Orlin Sackett above. Also have a mention of Mina Schofield perhaps Mina Sakett married a Schofield. Would you have any thing documenting Mary (Maud)Damm the second wife? Death record, marriage, census etc...
