    3. Hello Sackett Searchers: For those interested in a possible connection between Joseph and Zelotus; Pam obtained a copy of the probate file for Joseph Sackett of Naples, Ontario Co., NY and sent copies to me. 1. [SACKETT-L] Aaron Sackett
    2. Brian Sackett
    3. Charles Sackett son of Aaron Sackett (714) lived in Bergen (Genesee County) NY. I recently was looking at an old photo of his homestead and noticed a sign under the eave read "C. Sacket" with one T, quite a suprise since four of my uncles were born in that house. Called my uncle who still lives near Bergen and asked what he knew of the spelling, his response "Never heard of it". A check of the Bergen 1860 census turned up: Sacket, Charles - Age 67 - Occupation farmer - Born in Conn. In the same census I noted: Buell, David W. - Age 70 - Occupation chair maker - Born in Conn. I am now looking into a comparison of Charles and David's migration and David's relationship if any to Deborah Buell who married Benjamin Sacket (174). Has anyone already travelled this road? Brian

    3. Bev, Sorry to hear about the computer crash it happens to the best of us at the worst of times. The Newly formed Sackett Association has scheduled a meeting in SLC to help get us started. We invited the whole list to come join us both in visiting SLC and getting to meet new cousins. The trip is scheduled for Sept 24-30, 2003 and we are staying at the Holiday Inn and they have given us a rate $45 a night, but the time has run out for them to hold rooms for us, so it would be on a space available basis. Holiday Inn, Salt Lake City-Downtown 999 S. Main Street Salt Lake City, UT 84111 (801) 359-8600 telephone (801) 364-4915 fax www.saltlakeholidayinn.com One of the things we will be discussing is where we want to hold the 2004 Family Gathering. Although SLC is a possibility I hope people don’t hold going in Sept for a trip next year when we might go to MA (or one of many other places) instead. I think the only goal for the reunion is to find a place where we can do some more family research and meet more of our cousins. Hope to see you and others there. Please let me (LROBARGE@CHARTER.NET) know if you will be going so that I can make sure we get in contact with all of our cousins that are there. 2. Fred Sackett
    3. Fred, Am sorry to hear that you won't be in the area during that time period, but think that you will have a wonderful trip to Salt Lake. Will you take time to do research as well. There is a woman from here that goes out there with her husband and their RV and spends months at a time doing research. Her name is Lois and right now can't think of her last name. Any chance you will be passing through OKC on either your way out or way back. Would love to visit. I don't mind that you tell the group except my Mom was not the Sackett. My Dad descended from the Sacketts. Am sorry that you may have to have another angioplasty. Hope that you don't have to. Got to go Linda ----- Original Message ----- -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Hello Fred Date: Tue, 26 Aug 2003 20:29:39 -0500 From: Linda Hare <alstrom@icon.net> To: <sackett@gnat.net> It has been a long time. As I think that you know, since last June my mother has been living with us in OK. She just couldn't cope with living by herself after my Dad died. She was doing real well considering she had heart problems. Well, she had one heart valve that was closing and one that was leaking and they gave her less than 6 months. She elected to have heart surgery. Came thru beautifully and did extremely well for three weeks. Then was moved to another facility to start rehab. At that point other things started to go wrong. She died on Aug. 8, 2 days before her 89th birthday. Gordon and I are going back to Longmeadow over the Labor Day weekend as we are having a grave side service at the Pine Hill Cemetery on Sept. 4 at 2 p.m. She will be buried next to my Dad. Wondered if you would be up there at the time as would look forward to seeing you again. So far you have never gotten our way. Linda Nancy Longmeadow is just south of Springfield Mass. Fred

It's been quite awhile since I have done any genealogy research or even had time for thinking about it. I will , in the near future, be submitting an updated listing of my branch of the Sacketts to the list. After that I will begin a careful compilation of those Sackett's in my area, Broome Co, NY (where I live) & Susquehanna, PA, that are not directly part of my line. I will include scanned images of headstones and documents (where available) which I will also make available to all those on the list.

    1. Re: [SACKETT-L] 1763-Orville Sackett family
    2. Thurmon E. King
    3. Louella: These Sackett/Crego censuses are a great help! Especially the 1870 census for the household of David Crego and wife Anna. The Sarah Sackett, age 21 in the household matches with one of the twin daughters in the household of Orville Sackett in 1850. This would seem to indicate that Anna is the daughter of Orville. But the Amelia Sackett, age 29 (b. 1831) in the household of David Crego in 1860 is a mystery. Here is what I have for the family at this time: First Generation 1. Orville Sackett Capt. was born on 16 May 1798. He died on 28 Apr 1866. farmer, of Town of Stanford, near Bangall, Dutchess County, N. Y. In 1820 and for several years thereafter he was a commissioned officer in the 29th or Dutchess County regiment of infantry. David was born on 19 Jan 1813 in Lebanon, Columbia Co., NY. David Crego, Jr., was born in the town of Lebanon, on the 19th day of January, 1813; soon after his birth the family removed to Hillsdale, where they remained seventeen hears; they then sold out, and removed to Chatham Four Corners. David attended the common schools, and assisted in the labors of the farm until several years after he became of age. At the age of twenty-two, in 1834, he was united in marriage to Miss Sarah Briggs, of Dutchess county. In 1834 he sold out in Chatham, and purchased a farm of two hundred and twenty-five acres in the town of Claverack, -- beautifully situated about one mile south of Claverack village, which has ever since been his home. Mrs. Crego died in 1851, at the age of thirty-six years, and two years later Mr. Crego filled the vacancy in his household by choosing another companion, -- Miss Anna H. Sackett, of Dutchess county. By his first wife he has two sons, Walton O. and George W., who are both married; and by his second wife he has two children, Charles S. and Sarah B., both at home with the parents. Mr. Crego is a good farmer, and his farm is widely known as one of the most fertile and productive in the Claverack valley. He pays much attention to the breeding of fine cows, principally of the Alderney blood. Mr. Crego is a man of solid character, temperate in his habits, affable and courteous in his demeanor, honorable in his dealings, land enjoys and deserves the confidence and esteem of all. Is there a connection to Humphrey family? On page 206 is the family of John & Clarissa Humphrey which has 5 year old Sackett S. Humphrey as a member. -----Original Message----- From: Thurmon E. Do you want > those Thurmon? Louella: I always welcome any Sackett related census information I can get. So, as long as you are willing to do the census lookups ... I really appreciate it. At the same time, I know what it is like to decipher some of the hand writing on some of those census images. I transcribed most of the 1790-1850 Sackett data while I had a subscription to Ancestry's census images online. And before the LDS put the 1880 census online at their website there were others who had the 50 CDs of the 1880 census, published by the LDS, and sent the Sackett information to me. And as you have noticed, I made some errors in my transcriptions and there are probably some errors in the transcriptions in the LDS index of the 1880 census. So it is nice to have another opinion of the data from the images. I believe it is still true that Ancestry.com does not have the 1860 and 1870 censuses indexed yet and looking for an individual without an index was very tedious to say the least. In one of your notes you said: "page 239a supposed to have a Phineas Sacket, age 64, born New York but can't read this page" Could you send me a copy of that image? There have been times I have been able to use my graphics programs to manipulate some of the images to make some of the data readable. I'm interested in a family I found in the 1850 census: Year: 1850; State: NY; County: Dutchess; Township: Stanford Roll: M432_497 Page: 206 137/137 Sackett, Phil? 52 m farmer NY Sackett, Emmy 44 f NY Sackett, Ann 20 f NY Sackett, Catherine B. 19 f NY Sackett, Elisa B. 17 f NY Sackett, Samuel O. 15 m NY Sackett, Stephen W. 13 m NY Sackett, William B. 12 m NY Sackett, George W. 10 m NY Sackett, Lucinda J. 9 f NY Sackett, Silas W. 6 m NY Sackett, Ada M. 4 f NY Sackett, Sara E. 2 f NY Sackett, Mary E. 2 f NY I don't remember what the problem was that I couldn't read the name of the head of household. But in my search of the Columbia Co., NY web pages I found a David Crego who married a Miss Anna H. Sackett of Dutchess Co. http://www.rootsweb.com/~nycolumb/crego.htm David Crego "Along with the history of the Van Burens, Hogebooms, Vanderpoels, and hosts of other statesmen, judges, and professional celebrities of Columbia county, it is fitting that some of the real representatives of the people should be noticed, -- that the men upon whose shoulders the burdens and responsibilities of this great republic chiefly rest should be assigned their proper place in these annals. And of these we may mention David Crego, of Claverack. He was the son of David Crego, who was born in Columbia county, and was married to Miss Susannah Poultney. They reared a family of nine children, named as follows: Polly, William, Fanny, Betsey, Thankful, Zubah, Clarissa, Emeline, and David. David Crego, Sr., lived to the advanced age of ninety-five years. Mrs. Susannah Crego died in 1848, at the age of seventy-one. After her death, Mr. Crego, Sr., was married to Mrs. Landrus; there were no children by this marriage. She also died several years before his decease. By his first wife he has two sons, Walton O. and George W., who are both married; and by his second wife he has two children, Charles S. and Sarah B., both at home with the parents." I found David Crego listed in the 1880 census: Census Place Claverack, Columbia, New York Family History Library Film 1254820 NA Film Number T9-0820 Page Number 119A David CREGO Self M Male W 65 NY Farmer NY NY Anna CREGO Wife M Female W 50 NY Keeping House NY NY Charles CREGO Son S Male W 22 NY NY NY Sarah CREGO Dau S Female W 18 NY NY NY From this census data Anna would have been 20 years old in the 1850 census and there is an Ann Sackett in the household of Phil?
