    3. Regarding the Susquehanna Papers, there are many volumes produced by Cornell University. I looked them up when I visited there, regarding Alexander McKay. The DAR genealogist at the time, told me that that's why they considered McKay to be from Connecticut. I'm not sure this has ever been straightened out. But, it's an interesting read. Jill, Just a thought. Luzerne County, PA is in the Wyoming Valley of PA Could some of the details have been dropped with subsequent writings of the family history? It has happened to me LOTS. This area was Westmoreland County , Ct prior to and during the American Revolution. Do not confuse this with the Westmoreland Co. PA that now exists. Do not confuse Wyoming Co. NY with this area either. I'm not sure when the dispute between PA and CT was settled but it was after the revolution. If CT you will need to look at the Susquehannah Company Papers and if PA the archives at Harrisburg, PA. or The CT State Archives at Hartford for records of this area. If this has already been discussed or you already know this stuff. I apologize Patty B ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jill Jessen Hernandez" <kpitblu@cox.net> To: <SACKETT-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, October 07, 2003 9:46 AM Subject: [SACKETT-L] WHICH SACKET(T) was in Wyoming Co NY in 1800-1810? > > > This is Definitely MY HOWE and WALLER line ... 3. Hello Sackett Searchers; While I was in Salt Lake City I did a little bit of searching for information on Joseph Sackett of Berkshire Co., MA; Onondaga Co., NY; Ontario Co., NY and Allegany Co., NY. Earlier we had information relating to the will of Jedediah Cleveland of Onondaga Co., NY [dated 24 Sep 1831 (Book E, p. 168)] in which he mentions his daughter Philinda Sackett. I found that his will was proven 23 Nov 1831 (Book E, p. 168-174) in which it states that Jedediah's daughters Philinda [Sackett] and Orvilla [m. Avery Rice] "live in Allegany County". So this shows that Joseph Sackett, father of Harvey Chafy Sackett and Merrill Cleveland Sackett, had been located in Onondaga Co., NY. I also discovered that Joseph Sackett of Allegany county was a Pensioner of the War of 1812 and was pleasantly surprised to find that his pension file is on the CD that Liesa gave to me while in Salt Lake City. The information from his file is as follows: DECLARATION United States of America -- State of New York County of Steuben On this 10th day of July A. HOW TO FIGURE A BIRTHDATE REMEMBER THIS NUMBER: 8870 This is not an error: It is the number to remember when you want to find the birthdate of someone when you only have the date of death and age. How do you figure the birthdate? Suppose the person died May 6, 1889, at the age of 71 years, 7 months, 9 days. 1. Write the year, month, day as: ----------- 18890506 2. Subtract the age at death: ---------------- 710709 3. This gives the figure: ------------------------ 18179797 4. Now subtract 8870: -------------------------- 8870 5. The result is: ----------------------------------- 18170927 Year 1817, 9th month (Sept), 27th day or 27 Sept, 1817

    3. Karen: The information I have seen for Nathaniel B. Sackett of Olmsted Co., MN is proving to be "interesting" to say the least. And his ancestry is proving to be a thorny question. All of his descendants I have contacted [including Gary] have said that his father was named Nathaniel Baldwin Sackett. But I have been unable to find a Nathaniel or Nathan Sackett in the Federal census from 1800-1850 that is even close to matching the alledged Nathaniel Baldwin Sackett, father of Nathaniel B. Sackett found in the 1850 census for Dodge Co., WI and in the 1860, 1870, and 1880 censuses. The information you received from Gary Taylor is the first time I had seen the claim that the father was born in England. This claim is complicated by the 1880 census where Nathaniel's father is said to have been born in MA rather than England: 1880 census; Pleasant Grove, Olmsted, Minnesota Family History Library Film 1254628 NA Film Number T9-0628 Page Number 352B N.B. 3. Hello Sackett Searchers: While I was away for the TSFA meeting in Salt Lake City I received the following message. I have responded and indicated that the information John Pepper found on the website was provided by Eugene Venne. John appears to have been unaware of his father having changed his name. Once again; this illustrates how a bit of information provided by one researcher can be a key to open a door in another's "brick wall."
