Using the following formula I found the following please keep in mind if it says buried on then it is probably a couple of days off since they would more then likely have died before they were buried HOW TO FIGURE A BIRTHDATE REMEMBER THIS NUMBER: 8870 This is not an error: It is the number to remember when you want to find the birthdate of someone when you only have the date of death and age. How do you figure the birthdate? Suppose the person died May 6, 1889, at the age of 71 years, 7 months, 9 days. 1. Write the year, month, day as: ----------- 18890506 2. Subtract the age at death: ---------------- 710709 3. This gives the figure: ------------------------ 18179797 4. Now subtract 8870: -------------------------- 8870 5. The result is: ----------------------------------- 18170927 Year 1817, 9th month (Sept), 27th day or 27 Sept, 1817 Now the one problem I ran into was figuring out what happens when the month or day goes over what is possible until I realized if it was say 20 months then you subtract 12 and add to the year. Similarly for the day, but since I have not figure out if it should be number of days in that month or something general like 30 (that and these are all burial dates) these dates are just real close estimates. Liesa Sackett, Myron Ward, buried 15 January 1916, age 72 years, 2 months, 19 days, placing this person's birth in Oct. 1843. 1. Write the year, month, day as: ----------- 19160115 2. Subtract the age at death: ---------------- 72 02 19 3. This gives the figure: ------------------------ 18439896 4. Now subtract 8870: -------------------------- 8870 5. The result is: ----------------------------------- 18431026 (26 Oct 1843) Sackett, Sarah V. buried 13 September 1925, age 80 years, 10 months, 3 days, placing this person's birth in Nov. 1844. 1. Write the year, month, day as: ----------- 19250913 2. Subtract the age at death: ---------------- 801003 3. This gives the figure: ------------------------ 18449910 4. Now subtract 8870: -------------------------- 8870 5. The result is: ----------------------------------- 18441040 (1844 Nov 03) Sackett, Ward was buried 25 November 1932, age 63 years, 2 months, 28 days, placing this person's birth in Aug. 1869 1. Write the year, month, day as: ----------- 19321125 2. Subtract the age at death: ---------------- 630228 3. This gives the figure: ------------------------ 18690897 4. Now subtract 8870: -------------------------- 8870 5. The result is: ----------------------------------- 18682027 (1869 Aug 27) Sackett, Edgar H. was buried 30 December 1959, age 75 years, 8 months, 12 days, placing this person's birth in April 1884. 1. Write the year, month, day as: ----------- 19591230 2. Subtract the age at death: ---------------- 750812 3. This gives the figure: ------------------------ 18840418 4. Now subtract 8870: -------------------------- 8870 5. The result is: ----------------------------------- 18831548 (1884 April 18) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ted Mudge" <mudgekin@earthlink.net> To: <SACKETT-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, May 30, 2004 12:34 AM Subject: [SACKETT-L] Myron Ward Sackett family > The Sackett Web page that Thurmon maintains discusses a Myron Ward > Sackett, of Meadville, PA, born circa Oct. 1841, with wife Sarah Varian > Barber. Hi, My name is Charles Jay Flynn. I currently reside in Memphis, TN. I am 33 years old. I am the son of Rita Ann Garren, who is the daughter of Garna Jane Sackett, who is the daughter of Ralph Howard Sackett of New London Wisconsin. I look forward to contributing to this group and possibly meeting some relatives. The Sackett Web page that Thurmon maintains discusses a Myron Ward Sackett, of Meadville, PA, born circa Oct. 1841, with wife Sarah Varian Barber. Children included Ward Myron and Edgar H. I have recently been reviewing LDS Film 1026038, Interments, 1865-1921; index of interments, 1875-1978, Greendale Cemetery (Crawford Co., Pa.). I find a Sackett, Myron Ward, buried 15 January 1916, age 72 years, 2 months, 19 days, placing this person's birth in Oct. 1843. I also find a Sackett, Sarah V. buried 13 September 1925, age 80 years, 10 months, 3 days, placing this person's birth in Nov. 1844. A Sackett, Ward was buried 25 November 1932, age 63 years, 2 months, 28 days, placing this person's birth in Aug. 1869, and a Sackett, Edgar H. was buried 30 December 1959, age 75 years, 8 months, 12 days, placing this person's birth in April 1884. All of these persons are buried within the same Lot in Greendale Cemetery (Lot 69). Myron Ward Sackett and Sarah V. Sackett are buried in Section 4 of Lot 69; Ward and Edgar H. are buried in Section 5 of Lot 69. Section 5 of Lot 69 also includes a Sackett, Henrietta Porter, buried 21 May 1959 (no age listed). A Mrs. E.H. Sackett is also buried in Greendale, but in another location (Lot 3, Section A). She was buried 26 May 1929 (no age listed). It is only conjecture, at this point, that these are all members of the Myron Ward Sackett family, & their wives, but . . . . . Has this stuff already been discussed? Ted Mudge
I don't know how much of the following has already been hashed over -- my apologies if the info has previously been published. The Sackett Web page that Thurmon maintains discusses a Levi Dewey Sackett, of Meadville, PA, born 3 Dec. 1828, with wives Sarah (died after 30 Jul 1871) and Harriet (died 3 Dec. 1871). Children included Schuyler & Herman. Another contributor indicates that the first wife, Sarah, died "circa 1865", and that the name of the second wife was Ariet Marie. I have recently been reviewing LDS Film 1026038, Interments, 1865-1921; index of interments, 1875-1978, Greendale Cemetery (Crawford Co., Pa.). I find an L.D. Sackett buried on 12 September 1898, age 70. This fits with the Levi Dewey Sackett who was born 3 Dec. 1928. I find a Sarah Sackett buried 28 October 1864, age 34 years, 8 months, 10 days (first wife?). A.M. Sackett was buried 7 December 1871, age 40 years, 2 months, 20 days. These dates fit for the second wife, Harriet/Ariet Marie. Also listed is Schuyler Sackett, buried 22 May 1937, age 69 years, 1 month, 11 days, and Herman Sackett, buried 10 August 1960, age 90 years, 9 months, 27 days. All of these persons are buried within the same Lot and Section of Greendale Cemetery (Lot 42, Section 4). This same Lot and Section also contains the remains of Levi's parents, Jabez & Ann/Anna Sackett, as well as siblings and other children of Jabez, as well as (we think) Jabez' parents, Zavan & Abigail (Bills) Sackett. Conjecture - If it is true that first wife, Sarah, died in 1864, as seems apparent, then it's likely that she was the mother of the first three children, Mary, Willis and Howard, and the second wife, Ariet Marie, was the mother of Schuyler, Herman & Grace. Fence Viewer was an important job in colonial days. Not only were fences property boundaries as posted by Sharon, they also served to protect crops from roaming livestock. It was a fairly serious offense if your hog ruined your neighbor's cornfield or garden patch and the owner of a fence in disrepair could well find himself in front of the magistrate fined. What is a "Fence Viewer?" (I know, I know. One who views fences, right?) Anyone know?
Bill......... I think you hit it on the head. Check out the explanation on this site. http://www.townofgroton.org/main?cmd=get-townbody&id=45
While pursuing other family members I ran across this in "The History of Washington and Ozaukee Counties, Wisconsin, 1881) John Sackett elected as a Fence Viewer in the town of Clarence on 4/6/1847. The town of Clarence as established on 2/11/1847 and later became the town of Farmington, Washington County, Wisconsin (3/11/1848). Also in same book- Jennie L Sackett is mentioned as married to Russel S Kneeland - an agent in St Peter Minnesota. If anyone wants copies of these pages (3 in all) let me know and I will go back and copy them. Kari Roehl

Oops. Forgot to tell you that a good source to look at would be the Appleton Post Crescent. The date is 2/14/1930. It is showing that Adelia Sackett and Claud (spelled this way) will be graduating in New London High School in May. The only thing I find right now (I'm in a time crunch) is the 1930 census from Hortonia, District 31, Outagamie County, Wisconsin. If you are not from Wisconsin, Outagamie County is near Appleton. The record shows: Sackett, Ralph, 51, WI/NY/NY (occupation-Carpenter) Flora, 47, WI/Scotland/English Canada James, 23, WI Claude, 19, WI Adelia, 17, WI Garna, 15, WI William, 9, WI Earl, 4-10/12, WI Since this is not a total extract, I suggest you get a copy of the census for yourself. Let me know if you want the page emailed off-list to you. I'm happy to help. Also, as a side note- there is a Mabel Sackett age 48 living with George and Cora Jones also in Outagamie County. She is listed as their sister-in-law and single, so the possibility could be that Mabel, Cora and Ralph related. Maybe, maybe not. More research would be needed. Good luck and let me know if I can help you in any other way. I am trying to compile Sackett research in Wisconsin. Thanks. Kari: The Cora Sackett you mentioned below is Weygant's 7432-Cora Sackett, dau of Danile Sackett and Harriet S. Hart. This happens to be a different Sackett line. The interesting thing about George Washington Jones is that during his life he was married to three Sackett sisters; (1) m. 1876, Ella; (2) m. 1892, Maud; (3) m. Cora. Mabel Sackett was the younger sister of Cora. The information in your post indicates that Mabel was born about 1872 (information that I didn't have). FYI... I've been away with family for a long week end. This is the first I've heard about this series on PBS. Perhaps you have been watching it but just in case, maybe you'd like to catch this last one in a series tonight on life in New England in 1628 as I hope I will be able to do. Dear Listers, PBS has produced another very good reality type series called Colonial House. The series takes modern folk back to 1628 where the participants live life as new settlers in New England in 1628. It was a real test of the participants will since the life our ancestors lived nearly 400 years ago was much more rugged and difficult than we are ever faced with in modern society. Even for those who are used to "roughing it" while camping would, in all likelihood, find it difficult to sustain the 1628 way of life for four months. These participants had to: wear the clothing of our early ancestors (quite a challenge to get accustomed to such coverings and lack of other coverings we are very used to); cook over a fire and keep that fire going regardless of the outside temps; make a profit for the colony as the early colonists had to do in order to finance their trip from their investors; attend church for a total of six hours on Sunday; obey the early colonist laws pertaining to attending church (a must in the early colonies), keeping their attire appropriate, how they lived in their homes, as well as their manner of speech, i.e. no obscenities; stay within the role they each had to play within the fictitious colony. The series really brings to the fore how woman today have much freedom. Our female ancestors did not enjoy a fraction of the type of freedom we enjoy today. Woman were the cooks, cleaners, child bearers, and child minders. Their whole day was taken up by these duties. They also had no say in colony affairs. The men, on the other hand, ruled their households, controlled colony life, and worked very hard six days a week (Sunday was the mandatory observation of the Sabbath). For those of us interested in our ancestry this PBS series is quite good at giving us a look into the lives our ancestors lived and it really brings home how robust our ancestors must have been to sustain life in the "New World." If any of you have the option of viewing this series I highly recommend it. Our ancestors truly broke new ground in many ways while creating this country. We should all be very grateful for the paths they created and on which we enjoy walking today.
