Dear All, I thought it would be interesting to plot the locations of the Sacketts as shown by the censuses. For New York in 1880 we have the following numbers of households. Note that, while it is thought we have all instances of Sackett as a surname and as a forename, not a lot of work has yet gone into finding descendants with other surnames. Numbers of Sackett households: New York City Kings (Brooklyn) 12, New York (Manhattan) 21, Queens 2. Total for Greater New York City 35. New York Upstate Albany 2, Alleghany 6, Broome 1, Cattaraugus 2, Cayuga 3, Chautauqua 13, Chemung 3, Chenango 9, Clinton 1, Columbia 7, Cortland 2, Delaware 3, Dutchess 19, Erie 5, Genesee 5, Herkimer 3, Jefferson 4, Lewis 4, Livingston 5, Madison 1, Monroe 7, Niagara 4, Oneida 3, Onondaga 5, Ontario 7, Orange 3, Orleans 2, Oswego 5, Rensselaer 1, Saratoga 1, Schuyler 7, Seneca 5, St Lawrence 3, Steuben 2, Suffolk 1, Sullivan 3, Tioga 2, Tompkins 2, Wayne 1, Westchester 6, Yates 6. Total Upstate 174 Total New York State 209. I have added a Place Index to the 1880 Census in the hope that this may prove useful in finding families, especially as we start adding the other States. Regards, Chris
Thurmon, Chris, and All, It is interesting to look over the census as you have arranged it. Thought I would add my line which I have been meaning to do for some time. It took me a while to find them originally as Chellborg was listed as "Chillborg". Someone seems to have had some difficulty with this listing, I am putting the correct names in parenthesies in an effort to clarify things. Hope it does not confuse things instead! Well, I've looked for Charlotte & William in 1870 and have been unable to find them. They were in Decatur County in 1860, so I've looked in Putnam and the counties in between. I've looked for William, Charlotte and Joseph in 1870. No luck. I've even tried William & Charlotte in any other state using their approx. age. I can only think they were "on the road" when the census taker came! Being of like minds with you, I went to the vital records (birth, marriage, death) section of Ancestry for Indiana. The only records before 1882 are the Indiana Marriages 1845-1920. There are 896 entries. Here's the ones from Putnam County. If you want the rest, it's very easy to do. I'm happy to pull them. Let me know. There are no other records for Putnam County specifically. TSFA website www.sackettfamily.info has been updated today with the following databases: 1880 Census for New York City 1880 Census for New York State 1901 Census for England & Wales These pages are available via the Members' Area with the usual password. Please note that these are large pages and may be slow to load if using a dial-up service. It is believed (at least, this is the intention) that the pages contain all references to the surname Sackett (& variations), and also references to Sackett as a forename. There are some, but not many, extracts for descendants with other surnames. Research is by Thurmon King for the New York City censuses and by Chris Sackett and Marion Sackett for the English census. Identification is given by reference to Weygant numbers for some individuals in the New York censuses. However, not a lot of effort has been expended on this. It would be good if members would help with these identifications. May I suggest that members send in their identifications to the Sackett List. I will update the database at a later date. I will add data for other States over the coming weeks, concentrating on the 1880 census before going on to other dates. Regards, Chris Sackett TSFA Webmaster

Thank you, the marriage record helps. He was married in Dec 1870, so the best possibility for finding William in the 1870 census would be to find the household of his mother, Charlotte. He married in Putnam Co. and was there in the 1880 census with his mother in his household; so my guess would be that his mother would be there in the 1870 census. Would Ancestry.com, by chance, be anything relating to death records, obits, & etc ? Ted; Thank you for posting the Indiana Marriages. Thes will help sort out some of the individuals we find in the census. I tried to access these through a link on the usgenweb Putnam Co. website and got an error message. Best wisshes, Thurmon
Kari: I found William and his daughter Jennie listed in transcriptions of Cloverdale Cemetery, Putnam Co.: http://www.rootsweb.com/~inputnam/cem_clover2.htm CLOVERDALE CEMETERY; Section 2 SACKETT Matilda, Dec ?? ???? - Aug ?? ???? 79y William H., 1 Jun 1880 34y 6m 18d Jennie, d/o Wm. The info from the book gives her birth as 27 Nov 1878 and death as 8 Oct 1883. Hmmm!] There is an error somewhere in the dates for William. Figuring the 34 y 6 m 18 d from 1 Jun 1880 gives a birth date of 13 Nov 1845. His birth date given in the text you posted is 13 Nov 1846 and, it this date is correct, and his age at death was 34, then his death would have been in 1881. However, if his household was enumerated 11 Jun 1880 and he was enumerated and his age on his last birthday was 34 years, then he died after that date and would indicate his birth was probably in 1845. Maybe the headstone transcription is wrong and his death was actually 1 Jul 1880 which would put his birth as 14 Dec 1845. Isn't this fun? Thurmon Since it could easily have been a typo on my part, I double checked the original text. It does say 1880. I looked at the 1880 census and the date is June 11, 1880. So I will look at the 1860 & 1870 later to see if they can provide any clues for us. Jill: I haven't received copies of any of these records. But I did a search for the surname SACKET/SACKETT at the Yates County site on USGenWeb and using the information there plus some census searches that Louella did for me and searching the World Connect databases I came up with quite a number of descendants of Thomas J. Sackett. However, I haven't been able to determine who he descends from. The 1850 census indicates he was born c1800 in Mass. His son, Richard married Lydia Barber [sister to Culver S. Barber]. If you receive any of the documents, I would be interested in learning of their contents. Thurmon ***** This is what I have developed for this family: Modified Register for Thomas J. Cindy, I have enclosed the web site link for Lake County Ohio Genealogy Resources. Just scroll down until you have found Divorce. Be sure to include a SASE for them to return your document to you in. You might want to write to them and ask what information they need from you and how much the fee will be. This way you won't overpay or underpay. I have found that by putting the *<county state> Genealogical Society* into the browser I have always hit pay dirt. I then write to them asking what it will cost and within 7 to 8 days I have received a list of their fees and the blank forms necessary to request what ever document I had asked for. Here is the link: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohlcgs/resource.html Good luck, Arna -------Original Message------- From: Cindy Hi folks- Can anyone direct me on how to obtain a divorce decree from Lake County, Ohio? <snip>

Many counties in USA have turned all their records in to a state agency, and will tell you so, and the name & address of that agency. Good luck. Gordon Adams: goradams@sbcglobal.net >
