    3. Pam, the Sackett DNA Project was started to try to establish whether John of New Haven, ans Simon the Colonist, were related as Weygant supposed. If you have male Sacketts that would like to participate, we would welcome them to the project. You can contact me at [email protected] , or go directly to the website to sign up. If you would like further information, please contact me at my email. 3. Alice, Roberts email may have changed. I'll see if I have an updated one. David is only one marker off  25, with two others in the Simon Group as well, so he is solidly in the Simon Family. 1. Re: [SACKETT] Caroline Sackett born IL ca 1841
    2. Hi Thurmon, Yes, it has been a while since we have corresponded. I stumbled onto the Caroline Sackett information because the Goodman family also fits into my Duncan/Antle lines. I thought at first that Caroline and the Syrena Caroline Sackett from Samuel and his second wife were the same person. But I quickly found they were definitely two separate people. The Goodman's left Iowa for Oregon in 1865 with my Andrew Antle family. This is documented through a diary that was kept by Andrew Antle's daughter Elizabeth Roseanna Antle the entire trip. However, she never mentioned Caroline by name. I thought it is possible that since Caroline would have been in her 20's by 1865, she may have married in Iowa. If so, she may have remained in Iowa. I haven't been able to locate Tobias Goodman Sr. or Jr. in any census record after 1850. I am confidant that Caroline Sackett is the daughter of Samuel Sackett and Cyrena Goodman Sackett. I would think she died in childbirth or shortly after due to the date of her death and the birth year of Caroline Sackett. Here is what I have on Syrena C Sackett from the Samuel and Margaret Campbell marriage. I haven't located a death date or place yet. Possibly someone on the Sackett list has that information. 3. Hi Alyce, It has been a while since we worked on the family of Thomas Sackett trying to sort out his marriages & etc. I don't have anything for a Caroline Sackett, b. c. 1841 because this is the first I have heard of her. Checking the information I have from the image of a page containing deaths in the family of Samuel Sackett that I received from Cathy Rowland, I see that it has: "Syrena C. Sackett departed this life Jan. 13, 1841." And I didn't have the name of her parents. Therefore, if the Caroline Sackett, age 9 in the household of Tobias and Rebecca Goodman was the daughter of Samuel and Syrena; she would have been born on, or before, Jan. 13, 1841. Due to the fact that Samuel remarried 5 Feb 1843; a baby by his 1st wife would probably have been raised by her grandparents. Looking at the 1850 census for the household of Tobias Goodman, there were Tobias age 59, Rebecca age 59, Tobias jr., age 18 and Caroline Sackett age 9. On the USGenWeb site for Keokuk co, IA is this: http://iagenweb.org/keokuk/census/1854/Jackson.htm 1854 Jackson Township, Keokuk County Iowa State Census PG / LN / LAST-NAME; FIRST-NAME/MI / MALES / FEMALES / VOTERS / MILITIA / ALIENS / TOTAL 4 / 14 / Goodman; Tobias / 2 / 3 / 2 / 1 / -- / 5 >From this it would appear that by 1854 Tobias jr had married and Caroline was still in the household. If you are fairly confident that Caroline was a daughter of Samuel and his 1st wife, I will enter her into the database. It is interesting that Samuel and Margarite named their 2nd daughter Surena Caroline Sackett [b. c. 1854] Thurmon ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, May 18, 2009 7:33 PM Subject: [SACKETT] Caroline Sackett born IL ca 1841 >I have been doing a little research on the descendants of Samuel Sackett > (1815-1891), a son of Thomas Sackett and Catherine Chambers. 3. Pamela, The DNA project is something The Sackett Family Association (TSFA) started several years ago using Family Tree DNA to help us learn more about our Sackett family connections. Several male Sackett's have provided samples which have helped to make connections that we haven't had definitive proof for yet. If you would like more information about the project you can go to TSFA's website: sackettfamily.info You can also contact our project coordinator, Tom Smith. He is a member of this list and can probably answer your questions better than I can. 1. Re: [SACKETT] Robert E. Sackett
    2. Thurmon King
    3. Alice; Tom Smith contacted Chris Sackett and me concerning David's DNA and your Sackett line as put forth in "The Sacketts of America" First; Using Census data your line traces through Capt. Richard Sackett of Dutchess County, New York. And, Weygant traces Capt. Richard Sackett back to John Sackett of New Haven, Connecticut. However, as Wendy said, Weygant appears to have made some errors concerning the family of Capt. Richard. A.) Weygant had Wendy's ancestor, Skene D. Sackett listed as a grandson of Capt. Richard through a son named Josiah Crego Sackett. Research has shown that Weygant used an abstraction of Capt. Richard Sackett's will which led him to the erroneous conclusion that there was a son named Josiah Crego Sackett. Josiah Crego was Richard's step-son, the son of Richard's wife, Margery L.______ ,by her first husband, Stephen Crego. Therefore, we are uncertain as to the parents of the children ascribed to Josiah Crego Sackett and Miss Douglass. Added to that is the fact that DNA shows that Wendy's line is related to Simon. B.) Weygant has an Aaron Sackett listed as a grandson of Capt. Richard, but doesn't say who his father was. Research by John Sackett and myself has shown that Aaron did not descend from Capt. Richard. David's DNA confirms a connection between your line and the DNA of Sacketts who descend from Simon. Second: The fact that David's line traces back to Capt. Richard shows that Capt. Richard Sackett was related to Simon. However, although I may be alone with this, I am not certain that Capt. Richard Sackett descended from John Sackett of New Haven. Weygant has Richard as a grandson of John of New Haven through John's son, Jonathan Sackett. Jacobus in his "Families of Ancient New Haven" [published a few years after Weygant's book] does not list Richard as a son of Jonathan. And Jacobus has thorough documentation for his work while Weygant is somewhat lacking in his documentation. Therefore, as stated above, David's DNA does show a relationship between Capt. Richard Sackett and Simon Sackett of MA. In my opinion, we will not be certain about a relationship between John of New Haven and Simon until we are able to get a participant in the DNA project who descends from John of New Haven through someone other than Capt. Richard Sackett. 3. My son, David Sackett, took part in the DNA program, and has received the results, which we cannot interpret. He had an exact match with Robert E. Sackett for 25 markers, and I attempted to contact him for more possible enlightenment, but the address given : [email protected] was returned by Mailer [email protected] On the table with other participants, David is listed as "Unassigned" which doesn't enlighten us, either. We were trying to get more information on whether David was descended from Simon or John of New Haven; according to Weygant it is John, but doubt has been cast. Alice Sackett

    1. [SACKETT] Caroline Sackett born IL ca 1841
    2. I have been doing a little research on the descendants of Samuel Sackett (1815-1891), a son of Thomas Sackett and Catherine Chambers. I didn't find information in the Sackett database for a child named Caroline Sackett. Caroline was born in/about 1841 in Illinois. I believe Caroline is the daughter of Samuel Sackett and Syrena/Irene Caroline Goodman Sackett. Syrena/Irene Caroline died in 1841 in Illinois. Possibly she died in childbirth? Caroline Sackett is found with her grandparents Tobias and Rebecca Goodman in the 1850 census living in Keokuk Co., Iowa. Tobias and Rebecca left Iowa in 1865 with a wagon train headed for Oregon. Tobias died in Oregon. Has anyone found anything further on the child, Caroline Sackett? I don't find the Goodman's or Caroline after 1850. Thanks. 3. For those in our Sackett DNA project that may be contemplating an upgrade. Tom ----- Forwarded Message ----- From: "Max Blankfeld" <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Wednesday, May 13, 2009 7:39:21 PM GMT -05:00 US/Canada Eastern Subject: Y-DNA Upgrade Sale Family Tree DNA Header Dear Sackett Administrator, Over the last several years, due to the unmatched growth of our database, numerous people have confirmed and found new connections with others of their surname, and adoptees and descendants of adoptees have even found their biological surname lines. Are there any other individuals among these adoptees looking for their connection to this direct paternal line? To help answer that question, Family Tree DNA is offering, for a limited time, a discount on all Y-DNA upgrades! We will notify each participant in the database who qualifies for this offer by e-mail, and will provide them a direct link they may use to take advantage of the upgrade. There will be no need for participants to contact us directly in order to receive the reduced price; our prices have been adjusted in the system accordingly. The offer will last from May 14 th through May 23 nd . On average, the reduced prices will be 25% lower than the standard upgrade price. This is a great opportunity to increase the data in your project. Are there members who have been hesitant to upgrade due to price? This discount is an opportunity for them to upgrade and help both their group and potential lost relatives at the same time. When encouraging members to upgrade, you may wish to note that genetic matches allow people to find their biological lines, and not necessarily a specific individual. This promotion is for upgrades only and does not apply to new kit orders. It’s our way to thank past customers for their patronage. As always, we appreciate your continued support.
