The George LAMKIN who was assigned to maintain roads in Fauquier Co with John RUST may have been the son of George LAMKIN and Jane ASHTON. He was b abt 1715, I think, so he would have been the right age for responsibility in 1760. The George LAMKIN who was son of Peter LAMKIN and Anne RUST was b abt 1740 and married Agnes RUST. I don't know whose child Agnes was. This George died in Westmoreland Co abt 1772 (WCo Will wr 22 Dec 1772, pr 30 Mar 1773), and I haven't placed him in Fauquier at any time. There were very close ties between the RUST, LAMKIN, and COX families dating back to the marriage of Hannah COX and George LAMKIN bef 1670. Their son George (~1670-1727) is the one who m. Jane ASHTON between 1707 and 1714. One of Hannah's daughters by her second marriage to Samuel DAMOURVELL married Jeremiah RUST bef 1721. One of her grandsons, Samuel RUST, m. Elizabeth COX in 1741. There's another candidate George LAMKIN, the son of James LAMKIN and Jane JOHNSTONE, in Fauquier in 1760. He was the nephew of George who m. Jane ASHTON. Website http://www.mosquitonet.com/~luht/LAMKIN.HTM 12 Jan 98: "122 2. James Lamkin, b. ca. 1675, d. 1736, m. Jane Johnstone, dau. of James. Moved to Northumberland Co., Va. "1221 1. George Lamkin, b. ca. 1709, m. Sarah Chattin, dau. of Thomas Chattin & Margaret Miller of Lancaster Co. Relocated in 1760 to that part of Prince William that became Fauquier in 1759." Bottom line: I don't think we can identify the proper John RUST by his connection to George LAMKIN in road work. There were too many Johns and too many Georges, all connected by kin ties and neighborhood association. I'm off to Hawaii and won't be reading our Rust list until about Aug 14. Carry on without me, and I'll catch up with the discussion when I get back. Kathleen Much kathleen@casbs.stanford.edu
