I'm ordering the _Garner-Keene Families_ book by Interlibrary Loan. Thanks to Dan for mentioning it! Meanwhile, can somebody tell me how Susannah KEENE ties into the family of William KEENE and Elizabeth ROGERS, who had children William, Elizabeth, John, Hannah (who married two of my 8g-uncles), and Sarah (who married another 8g-uncle) born in the 1660s? I have quite a bit of information on the ROGERS family and some more on KEENE descendants. Could somebody please post the bibliographic reference to "Leona's book"? I know so little about the name Rust or Russ that I hesitate to jump in, but hope some one knows Margaret Russ. My gggrandmother was Margaret Russ, married to Thomas Jefferson Gannaway. He is buried in Ouachita County, Arkansas. Margaret died in 1884, but I do not know where. She had 3 boys who also died about that date. Gannaway family came from somewhere in Tennessee when Tom was a small boy, but I do not know about Margaret's family. There was an Asa Russ in Ouachita County, Ark. He attested that Margaret & Tom's daughter had the consent of her parent to marry on Bond for marriage license on February 20, 1893. I do not know Margaret's parents, siblings, birth place, etc. Does anyone know anything about the name RUSS or RUST. Are Russ' or Rust sometimes Russell? Maurine Mattson

I also have her research on the Forsyth, Lowry, Evans, Cox, Lamkin, Rucker and Westmoreland families who are related families. The Rust of VA book is great and Leona clears up some unclear areas and relationships. I have not contacted Leona since 1990 and do not know whether or not she is still living. Martha Garner, wife of Samuel Rust, was the tenth child of John Garner and his wife Susannah Keene. This from the book GARNER-KEENE FAMILIES OF NORTHERN NECK, VIRGINIA by Ruth Ritchie and Sudie Rucker Wood, Charlottesville, VA., 1952. I am related to the Rucker family in two lines. I'm seeking clarification on the RUST/GARLAND connections. W&MQ, Series 2, 2:20, p. 319: "Garland: Griffin and Mary (Rust) Garland. Children: Benjamin Newton, Jeremiah, Peter Rust, and Elizabeth Rust Garland. Griffin's will, Richmond County, Va., 1808. --Ellsworth Marshall Rust, 1010 Vermont Ave., Washington, DC." Headley does not abstract this will, as it falls after 1800. Has anyone on our Rust list seen it? Ellsworth M. Rust, _Rust of Virginia_ (Washington, 1940), p. 56: "[child of Capt. Peter RUST by second wife Elizabeth NEWTON] Mary, m. by 1772, Griffin Garland, who at one time was surveyer of Richmond County, Virginia, d. 1808, his will proven in that year, made in 1804, names children by his first wife, Mary Rust, she being deceased. Ellsworth M. Rust, _Rust of Virginia_ (Washington, 1940), p. 102: "402-Samuel Rust-301 was born Westmoreland County Virginia, date undetermined; died Fauquier County Virginia; married Mary Lee Bailey, Westmoreland County, Virginia, born there, died Kanawha County, West Virginia. He and his wife are buried in Rust Cemetery, near Poca, West Virginia. "403-Captain Benjamin Rust-301 of 'Elmwood,' near Upperville, Fauquier County, Virginia, was born 1749, died June 21, 1834; married Hannah Philippa Lee (Bailey), born 1757, died July 1824, buried in family vault at 'Elmwood.'" Pp. 80-81: "322-Vincent Rust-207 date and place of birth undetermined. His will, September 28, 1793, was proven April 29 1794; married Anne Bailey, who appears to have been sister to the wives of 402-Samuel Rust, and 403-Captain Benjamin Rust. EMR didn't say who Hannah's parents were. Can anyone amplify? I have an awful lot of LEEs who may tie in with her. The names Hannah and Philippa abound in the Westmoreland Co. LEE and LUDWELL lines. In fact, there was a Hannah Philippa LUDWELL Lee in the preceding generation, for whom Miss BAILEY may have been named. These RUSTs are not my direct line, and all the information I have on them comes from Ellsworth Rust's book (LDS microfilm). His notation puts the person's i.d. number before his name and his father's i.d. after it, so Samuel and Benjamin are sons of John RUST (~1719-1776).
