    3. Hi all, Just wanted to say, welcome, to the brand new Russia-L mailing list. It may take a few days to get this list going. Just to let you know, I do not mind if you post information to this list. Anything that may be helpful or interesting. Your messages does not have to be just questions. Occasionally it is a good idea to post the surnames you are working on. Believe it or not, my Russian ancestors name is Bell. Francis B. Bell, born January 1845. He is my gggrandfather. My great aunt (who is 83) used to live with him, but due to her health, she has not been able to give me extensive info on him. I know he grew up in St. Petersburg and then immigrated to Schuylkill Co., PA. I know he was in the Grier City area, and also Tuscarora. He owned an inn in Delano, Pa. he married Anna Hefner, who also listed her place of birth as Russia. Any info on these surnames would be appreciated. Carol

    2. Joseph M Kendall
    3. Looks like I owe someone an apology. Thats what I get for doing my mail at 3 am. I just figured out that what you ment was the country Russia as opposed to a surname of Russia. Of course when I saw it in the Ethnic interest section, I assumed it was for the country and not a surname, So then I ASSUMED that you did not want surnames. Kinda stupid of me. Sorry Joe Kendall Researching; Bejanov, Tamookov, Deverff. ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. 1. Officers in the Imperial Army / Refugees in China
    2. Joseph M Kendall
    3. Is there a register of Imperial Army Officers? My Great Grandfather was a Lt. Capt.? ( the equivalent of a Major in our army) He was of Armenian abstraction and would have served in Tiflis Georgia and/ or Sebastian; in 1895 to 1917 time frame. Secondly; is there any list of White Russian Army officers. He held the same rank in the one of the White Armies. I don't know which but they went from Sebastapol to Ekaterinaburg ; accross the Trans Siberian Railroad to China. He was a staff officer of some type and may have been an intelligence officer. And lastly; is there a resource for the Russian community of Shanghai China for the 1920's to 1946? P.S. I have not included my surnames because of the information that came with the announcement of this list. It seemed to indicate that surnames would not be welcomed. Sincerely Joseph M. 1. [RUSSIA-L] Sapega etc...
    2. atacama
    3. before one can help, one needs to know a lot more about this SAPEGA family - all Christian names, patronyms, dates of birth, provinces - otherwise it is like looking for a needle in a haystack. Sapega is a widely used surname, so one needs to define it and it narrow down provinces, villages, dates, to get a fast accurate picture. "Naradnaya Volya" is Russia for "National Will", a nationalist movement for independence from the Russian Empire. You will find it on the Internet, is you browse througth Polish 19th century history or Polish National Movements. The Russian Nobility book Erach mentions is in fact in Russian and there are no plans to translate it - I translate chapters. Vera
