Can anybody tell me a good place to get a map of Belarus naming the individual provinces? Also a map of the 1894/5 era so I can see if the borders changed from today's and/or if the towns changed their names. Thank you for any help. Judi
Hello! I just joined this list because I really need help from somebody that knows about Russia. All my life I have been told my GGgrandfather was from Belarus outside Minsk. I have his naturalization papers but I can not locate any of the places mentioned in the documents. MapQuest is not able to help either. Well his name was Trofem Nekoloff (Nikolaev) born 1894. The first place mentioned is were he was born on his entry form (april 1913), it states he was born in "Neszczicz, Russia" but I can not find it. That same document also states he last lived with his brother in "Meganicz, Russia" which I also can not locate. Next on his Origianl papers for Citizenship filed in 1960 his place of birth is listed as "Niehaniec, Russia" and it states that it is "100 miles from Minsk" His alien registration states his place of birth was "city-Niehaniec,provison- Minsk,country- Russia" Then his petition for his Alien Registration just states he was born "100 miles from Minsk, Russia" His petition for Naturalization shows the place of birth as "Neszczicz" again. I have tried looking for every variation I could think of but since I do not know the language I don't have a clue how it might of been distorted with the differnce in the languages. Can somebody please point me in the correct direction so I can start looking in the right place for his birth information and the family that remained in the old country. Thank you for any possible help you can offer. Judi

Hi all, I receive a copy of THE FAMILY TREE, a publication of the Odom Library, Moultrie, Georgia, USA. It's a newspaper full of all kinds of interesting tidbits, mostly Scottish. But here is a Russian bit. Please understand, I have no personal knowledge of this person, and I don't indorse anyone as a genealogist. This is just an article written by the newspaper. Hi all, I am so sorry not to have done some research for the list before now. The list is new as of January, so there are not very many archived records. As listowner, I generally like to do some websurfing and provide the list with as many good web links as possible. However, I have been held up on a few other pieces of business. I am now looking at a 5 day vacation, so I started today, gathering what I could find on the web concerning Russia. There is alot to look at. I also do Polish research, and have alot of Polish resources, which are many times also Russian. This list will be my top priority this weekend. So I will start by listing the websites I have found. Hope you find these useful. What town or city near Moscow has the Sun for an emblem? Researching the surname Zjukovskij, Zukauskas. Is there anyone with this surname in Russia today? Who and where can I contact to see is this family ever lived in Moscow during the 19th Century. A son of Joseph and Rose Zjukovskij/Zukauskas named Anthony was born-1800 in Moscow. I am wondering if all their other children were also born in Moscow. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you, Pat from the USA, Michigan
I am trying to assist a friend in locating the missing brother of her father. His name is/was John KURALL. Born around 1905 or 1906 in Illinois, USA, the family moved/traveled to Russia in the 1930-40s (?). The family later decided to move on to Cuba, and two brothers stayed behind in Russia to complete family business. One brother died there, and the other, John corresponded with the family for some time, the family had moved to Brazil instead of Cuba. Living in rural Brazil, they depended on a neighbor to retrieve the mail from the post office, and after a while, the letters, which many times contained money, stopped coming. One day while playing ball, a family member found burned letters from John, in a field, and they realized the neighbor had been stealing the money and destroying the letters. They tried in vain to contact John, but he could not be found at the old address on the letter. John's brother died in 1990 praying to see his long lost brother, or at least to learn of his fate. My friend, the daughter of this brother is now trying to locate any information on her uncle, JOHN KURALL, son of JOHN and KINGA KURALL of America. I would greatly appreciate any assistance in learning what became of this man. Sincerely, Marguerite Prinz-Songy Msongy7777@aol.com

Hello, I am new to this, but I was hoping that someone could help me. I am looking for information (i.e. birth certificate, marriage certificate, etc.) for IDA KAMINSKY RICHMAN and/or JACOB RICHMAN. IDA KAMINSKY was born in the late 1880s in LOMZA (the Russian part of Poland). Her mother's maiden name was SPILKA or SPILKER. She came to the U.S. through Castle Gardens in New York City around 1904 via BREMANHOFER, GERMANY. She was married to JACOB RICHMAN from KIEV, RUSSIA. (I do not know when.) JACOB RICHMAN came to the U.S. through Canada from England prior to 1907. I would very much appreciate it if anyone could tell me how I can obtain information on either of these two people. Thank you. Alycia ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

Does anyone have any idea how I can get information on my fathers family? They lived in Tambov Russia. My grandfather was a deacon in the Russian Orthodox Church in Tambov. I tried RAGAS a Russian search agency with no results. Your help will be appreciated.. Thanks Alex Magnitzky Piseco, NY & Zephyrhills, FL alexm@klink.net
My grandmother, Vera Evlampeva was born near present day Lodz, Poland to a Russian father and a German mother on May 6, 1868. Family lore said she was born in Warsaw, but I have a Russian Travel document issued to her for a years travel from the Petrokov governate in June of 1887. I have been told that that area is now Piotrkow Trybunalski and is some 26 miles SSE of Lodz. I don't know anything about the family except she lived in an area with lots of wolves and she had 9 brothers and sisters. She married Friedrich A. Reinmann in Moscow sometime around 1887 or 1888 according to her oldest daughter. Friedrich was a stablemaster for a number of circuses and they traveled all over Europe. That's it. Any help with the family name (I have been unable to find it anywhere) or any information on the family or family member will be greatly appreciated. I will share information on her husband's family and their descendants (He was born in present day Estonia). Thank you. Fred M. Reinman

New to list - Looking for information on g-grandfather Jozef ZJUKOVSKIJ/ZUKAUSKAS Americanized to JACUSKY. Family members say the Jewish people helped him escape Russia/Lithuania in 1898. Does anyone know if there are land records for the surname ZJUKOVSKIJ during the 19th Century in Mogilev, Belarus, and if so where do I search? Thank you, Pat

Hi! I am hoping someone will recognize these SURNAMES of PAVLOVICH, BEREZOYKOFF, SCHOENWETTER, LUNING and maybe shed some light on my ancestors (and descendants). My Grandparents immigrated to the USA, I believe, in 1906 and landed in San Francisco in or around the great San Francisco Earthquake. My Grandfathers' name: Victor - Viktor - (or some variant spelling) Michael (Mikal or some variant) PAVLOVICH. Born 1883. Died 4-11-1962 in California. He was a train conductor on the Trans-Siberia Railways in Russia prior to immigrating to the USA. It is believed that he was of Lithuanian descent. His wife Ellen - Eleana - Elena BEREZOYKOFF (or some variant spelling) was with him when the ship was in the San Francisco Bay area. It is not know if they were married at that time. She was born in Irkutsk, Siberia in 1887, died 1-2-1954 in California. Between them, they had: Sally (SHUSTER), Nina, Michael, Violet, John, and Ellen. The SCHOENWETTER line is from Wisconsin area. I know nothing except that two SCHOENWETTER sisters (Dolores and Ruth) married two PAVLOVICH brothers (Michael and John) in the 1930-40's. The LUNING line is from the New York area. Edward Joseph LUNING (b. 1900) X Mabel S. McCORMICK (b. 1902?), both born in New York. Can anyone help me with past/current relative info? TIA, M. Luning mluning@tele-net.net
Hello, my name is Patricia and I live in the USA. I would like to find genealogy information on my G-grandfather Jozef Zujkovskij/Zukauskas/Jacusky b. 1846 possibly in Belarus, Mogilev, and married Rozalia Grabowska in 1877- Belarus, Mogilev. Are there any land records for Mogilev in the period in question 1800-1900. One of their son's George was born in Moscow, 1898. Can someone inform me of where to send for information? Also I am wondering it my G-grandfather Jozef Zujkovskij was related to the Jakovsky noble family. He lived with the Zujkovskij (Russian spelling) and wanted the family to know the Lithuanian spelling and later in the 1920 changed to Jacusky. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you! Patricia

Hi Listers I was recently at the St Petersberg website and found that my 5th g- grandfather was born in 1807 in Goecklingen, Elsass. I was wondering if there is a website I can go to for Goecklingen, Elsass that also has birth, marraige and death records like the St. Petersberg website?
