    3. Hi all, As listowner for the Russia-L I have combed the web, for resources for Russian research. However, one person can only find so much. If any of you have knowledge of some good resource sites, addresses, or actual lists or records, please send them to the list. I'll add all resources to the Russian webpage. If you have your own website with Russian info I'll be glad to add it to the researchers pages. If you have info you've gathered, like births, deaths marriages, cemetery transcriptions, etc. I can create a page to put it on and make it accessible to other researchers. For ideas of what to send, check out my Donegal, Ireland pages at http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Estates/6587/Donegal.html I would really like to get some exchange of info and data going on this Russia list. I've found on the Donegal list, that when someone provides info, they usually end up making some connections to others on the list. I know Russia is difficult, since it's boundaries are constantly changing, as well as the government and for awhile it was pretty much a closed country. Let's take advantage of the freedom there is right now to have access. All suggestions are welcome. Thanks to all Carol

    3. Charles, My great great grandfather was also from St. Petersburg. However, I still haven't found out how to go about finding records in Russia. That was one of the reason for starting this list. I was hopeful that a group might be able to provide more resources than one individual. I have scoured the web for Russian resources. I have found one site that is called the Odessa Project. They have tons of records from St. Petersburg. I have not found my gggranddad, but you might check it out. You can access it from http://www.rootsweb.com/~ruswgw by clicking on the link on this site, to Russian information. If you have any problems let me know. By the way, my great great grandfather's name was Francis B. Bell. That seems like an unlikely Russian name, so it's been slow going on that one. carol

    1. Daniel Dunglas HOME & son/DE KROLL
    2. Charles Home
    3. Hello I've just joined this list & I've only seen a couple of messages in the last few days, but I'm going to post this in the hope that some-one out there will be able to assist. (That's assuming there are people out there. :) An ancestor of mine was a man called Daniel Dunglas HOME. His claim to fame was the fact that he could levitate himself. He did this so well that he used to perform in front of Royalty. He married Alexandrina DE KROLL on 1 August 1858 in St. Petersburg. Her father was Count .....DE KROLL, & she was the Goddaughter of Czar Nicholas. (Probably the Czar had thousands of Godchildren.) They had a son on 8 May 1859, on the Gargarine Quay, St. Petersburg (Christened 22 May 1859). I do not know this boy's name except that the nickname Gricha appears. Is this a boys nickname or proper name? I am trying to find out what happened to him. He had an impressive list of Godparents:- Marquis de Chateaureynard Count Gregoire DE KROLL (uncle) Countess Luba DE KROLL (aunt) Sophie ?? (relative) His mother died in the Dordogne, France 3 July 1862 His father died near Paris 21 June 1886 Does anyone have any info on the boy, or info on where I can look? Thank you, & apologies for such a long message. Charles Home

Did you know that there is over 135 POLLIO's listed in the United States? And 1 in Canada! Go to www.Ancestry.com then type in your relatives last name and hit find. Another screen will come up scroll down until you find address of Pollio family listed in the United States. Maybe a relative, it gives address' and phone numbers. Have fun! 2. Hi all, I recently found some interesting information on my great grandfather Felix F. SIDOR, or SIDOROFF. Apparently, he entered the monastery to become a Roman Catholic priest, back in 1880 or so, in Lithuania. Discovering he was not priest material, he entered the Russian Military Academy to become an army officer. Upon graduation (high honors) he had a dispute with his superiors and fled to Ireland. He traveled around Europe until he emigrated to the US in 1889, with his wife, Anna STANKUS SIDOR. Felix was highly educated, and came from a distinguished family. He had an uncle in the Russian army that retained his General status until he was 104 yrs old. Felix also had a cousin who fought for the czar in the Japanese war. I am quoting most of this from a newspaper article telling of Felix's death from a streetcar accident in 1910 in Grand Rapids, Mich. My question is: where can I write to verify this information? Is there a website that might help me find more information on Felix? His naturalization papers revealed only his name and a witness' name. I would really love to find his birth city, and his parents names! Can any of you experts point me in the right direction with this puzzle? Thank you very much in advance.... Mary (Cdogger@aol.com)
