    3. Hello: My name is Janis and I am looking for my Russian roots. My grandfather Mihail Markillo was working in Moscow when he met my grandmother. However, his family was from Tambov. The last contact that my grandmother had with him was 1915. At that time he must have been in his late teens or early twenties. He was probably born in Tambov around 1995. He came from a large family that apparently owned sheep in or around Tamov. Apparently he was working in Moscow for a newpaper. Any information would be much appreciated. Thank you

    3. Dear Listers I am trying to trace my family tree. My Russian paternal grandparents' names were Ilia MISHIN and Maria VASIN and they lived in St. Petersburg before the 1917 revolution. Does anyone have any connection with these names or any advice of how to go about tracing one's family history through Russian channels. I'm fairly new to all this and would really appreciate any assistance anyone can give. Michael Mischin michaelmischin@bigpond.com.au

    3. I found this on the Social Security Death Index, if you write them and send 7 dollars you will get his social security number and it will tell where in Russia he was born and it will give his parents name. Also if he always lived in Brooklyn, try and find his naturalization papers, they give all kinds of information on them, it has a place on it too where and what boat he came in on. Just print out the form that is down below and send it to them. It will take about 4-6 weeks to get it. 1. is it Russian or not can some one help me
    2. Carol Rankin
    3. Hi I have been reading the emails about all the different lists that pertain to European names. My grandfather's name was Gregory Hrinkevich. I have his naturalization papers and it states that he was born in Minsk Russia. I have had other people tell me that he is Lithuanian, but my father says not that he spoke Russian. I know that he came over here in 1914 and he was naturalized in 1936 . My dad told me that the reason that his father waited so long to become naturalized is because he always expected to go back home to Russia, but he figured that after 20 years he wasn't going anywhere. He married in Conn. I have his marriage license. I can't find his Social Security number, and I know that he had one and I can't find his death certificate. Which I know that he is dead, I know where he is buried. I know where he used to live but that house is long gone. Can someone tell me how or where I can go about getting some more information on him? I know that he owned a Cab company in New York and sold it when his son got sick to pay for his medical expenses. He moved to Philadelphia Pa after that son died. He later worked as a mechanic. My father either has selective memory or he just doesn't remember. Also my Aunt mentioned to me that he worked at Yale and Towne, but I can't find the one that he worked at and I don't think that they would keep records from that long ago! Can someone please help? I have been working on this since I was 16 I am 36 now and I am almost no farther than I was before. Thanks so much, I never knew my grandfather he died before I was born and my father is really reluctant to talk about his home life. Carol Rankin crankin@camden.net

    3. An article with the above title, by Coryne Hall, appeared in the February 1999 issue of Family Tree Magazine. The author had traced her family connections in St. Petersburg through the Public Record Office, including RG33/146 and RG43/1. She subsequently visited the St. Petersburg area and describes places where her relatives had lived and were buried. This prompted me to contact a researcher in the London area who made a search for me which covered RG33/146, RG33/147 and RG33/148. These produced several birth, baptism, death and burial dates for family members. Since there are over 565 entries in RG33/147 alone, these records appear to be a great source for tracing one's ancestors.

    3. I would like to apologize to everyone that received a spam from my e-mail. I just found out what a spam is the hard way!!! Before today I didn't know what a spam was??? I know you all think I'm stupid, but with three restuarants to run, a home and a teenager I don't have time to keep up on internet lingo. I received a joke about a "Cookie Recipe" from another genealogist and thought it was legitamate. However, I found out it was an old joke!! Joke was on me, because I was already kicked off the Alabama genealogy list for spamming faster than my head could spin. Hope everyone else doesn't fall into this trap. If anyone wants the e-mail to the person that did this to me, I would be glad to post. She may not have known either about this type of bad Joke. I have e-mailed her to see why she did it. The sad part is I had been helping all these sites for free, look-ups, free snail mail for folks that couldn't open files and free photo's at my expense. Not one time did I get to express what had happened to me before I was judge and hanged by a one person jury. The ax fell today! Thanks everyone for your help, Lorie Harrell QSCV@twave.net
