    1. [RUSSELL] OSTBY - RUSSELL Family Photographs
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" two old photographs belonging to the OSTBY. EVENSON, and RUDI Families of Arkansas and Wisconsin. The first is a photograph of John J. OSTBY which was taken at the W. J. Perrings Studio in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. The photograph appears to have been taken in the early 1900's with John likely in his 40's at the time it was taken. In addition to his name, someone has written "original settles in Long Enlo, Holmen, Wis" and "My Uncle" and "Mrs. O. C. EVENSON" and "he was my father's brother both of them sons of the original pioneers who were of the first to arrive from Hedemarken, Norway" and "Their parents Jens and Tonetta OSTBY are buried in the Long Cooley Cemetery close to the entrance to the Cemetery, at the right" and "My Aunt Oline wife of Gortheon SWENSENGSON (Gorden) is also buried at that Cemetery" and "My Father and Mother were Mr. & Mrs. Cornelius Johnson OSTBY" and "Mollie OSTBY - wife of O. C. EVENSON of La Crosse, Wis". The second photograph is one of Mollie OSTBY and Amalia RUDI of Westby. The photograph was taken at the Boston Art Studio in La Crosse, WI, probably sometime in the 1890's or early 1900's with Mollie listed as 15 years old at the time it was taken. In addition to their names someone has written "taken with roommate while attending the La Crosse High School then located on 8th and Main". Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding this family: John J. OSTBY married Emma Virginia RUSSELL on 30 Jan 1905 in Jefferson County, AR. Cornelius Johnson OSTBY b. about 1851 in Long Coulee - Holmen, WI and married Olena EVENSTAD in about 1876 in Long Coulee - Holmen, WI 1920 census of LaCrosse, WI: Ole C. EVENSON, age 37, born WI, parents born Norway, an Oil Co. Clerk Mollie EVENSON, wife, age 34, born WI, parents born WI/Norway Marjorie EVENSON, dau, age 5, born WI I am hoping to locate someone from this family so that these wonderful old photographs can be returned to their care. If you are a member of the family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley
