Hello List, It has been some time since I made a post. Like some others, I kept watching to see if anything came through that looked like it would help- but nothing even close. I have made posts before about this same family- but will try once again. I am searching for the parents of William O. Russell. He moved from Fayette CO., Al. to Tippah CO., MS in 1844. On the 1850 census, he states that he was born in Georgia in 1800. I have a lot of information on him, but it mostly starts in the 1820's. I know he lived in Franklin CO., Al in the early 1820's. He married a Nancy G?? sometime around 1820, I know he was divorced from her, according to Alabama Acts: Divorces, in 1827/28 in Franklin CO. There is evidence that he was across the line in TN in early 1820's. He married Jane Unknown , July 5, 1829 in Franklin CO., AL. He was living in Fayette CO. in Sept 1839 when he filed for free land under the free land act of 1820. He filed for 2 tracts of land in Lamar CO., AL. and received them the same day according to records I have from Bureau of Land Management. He moved to Tippah CO., MS in 1843. According to 1850 & 1860 census, all his children born prior to 1843 was in Alabama . and in Tippah CO. after that date. He & Jane had 13 children - one of which was John Calhoun Russell-b. 1852 which is my Great Grandfather. In every document that I have found, he always used William O. However, in earlier documents that have been filed, it is possible that his parents only used William- which makes it almost impossible to trace, since there were about 50 to 60 William Russell's born about that time and lived in Southern TN and Northern AL during this time frame.. According to stories passed down from John Calhoun to my Grandmother, William O. was suppose to be the son of Major Russell for whom Russellville, Al. is named. I think I can say that I have proven that this is impossible. I have a lot of information on the Major & his family. his one son that was named William has no known children born after 1836. So, if William O. is related to the Major, there is another generation in there that the family didn't know about. So, if there is anyone that has any information as to who William O. Russell's parents are, I would love to hear from you. Bill Roach
