    1. [RUSSELL-L] Russell surnames
    2. David Bladen
    3. John (Hunt): This is interesting...The Russells, on my mother's side of the family, arrived on the island of Barbados, West Indies sometime in the late 1600's, early 1700's. In those early years of colonization they were "Planters" for the most part. Oral history has it that they originally came from Scotland. I have a chart, handed down by a member of the family, showing a connection with SINCLAIRs from Scotland/Ireland and the RUSSELLS in Barbados. Unfortunately, whoever prepared the chart originally they did not indicate the connection with these Russells and a JOHN HUNT RUSSELL that I have on my tree. The first RUSSELL, is a JOHN HUNT RUSSELL who was married to JANE Unk around 1798, they had 9 children. The 2nd John Hunt Russell was the grandson of the first JHR. How is your HUNT side of the family connected to the RUSSELLs? Do you know of any connection on your side with families in the West Indies? There are numerous connections between the early settlers in the West Indies, and in particular the island of Barbados, and the early colonies in America. If you would be interested in what I have on John Hunt Russell and his descendants, just e-mail me. Regards, David (Bladen)
