John and Mary Russell (nee McDonnell or McDowell) migrated to Tasmania, Australia from County Cork in Ireland on 20th February 1853. Their children travelled with them. They were: Edward aged 13, Bridget aged 11. Ellen aged 8 and Jeremiah aged 4. On the same ship listed under single women was a Mary Ann Russell aged 16 from County Cork.. I assume this was also their daughter? We’re not sure if John and Mary had any other children when they came to Australia but there was a Michael Russell that was recorded as a godparent or sponsor for Ellen’s first child, Mary Ann Cecelia Barr. I would love to find out where in County Cork they were from and whether they left family behind when they came to Australia. Does anyone have any information on my Russell ancestors?
