Hi, I looked at the census you mentioned. What you are running into is the old style of writing used by some back then. The name is RUSSELL but back then when they had a double S like ss they would write fs. Don't ask me why but that was it so if you run into Mississippi it would look like Mifsifsippi and Russell would look like Rufsell. Hope this helps.
