I bought an old book at a Friends of the Library book sale last year, and saw some Russells mentioned in it. They weren't mine, so I didn't pay too much attention to them. Well, last night, for some unknown reason, I decided to go through, and mark all the Russells in the book. The book is titled Virginia Genealogies, and is actually on a lot of surnames. Russell wasn't one of them, but I bought the book since there were some Russells mentioned. There was a Margaret Atwell b. Jan. 30, 1845 m. Jan 31, 1867 to Col Daniel L. Russell, C.S.A. Their children are listed, but this may not be of interest to you, as they appear to have settled in TX. Further into the book, there is mentioned a Patience (Russell) Almy that married a John Winthrop Almy. This was also in the 1840 time frame. Mentioned also, a John Russell in Lanc'r County, VA. Cornelia m. Col. Ira B.F. Russell, U.S.A., b. Mass., appointed cadet at West Point from Mass; 2nd Lt. U.S.A. July 24, 1818. (List several lines of military information), lived in Chicago. They had a child, E. Peyton. Mention in book also is a William G. Russell in regards to his knowledge of a Henry G. Peyton. There is a Robinson family section mentioning an Elizabeth Russell's marriage to an Anthony Robinson of York County, VA. Elizabeth was born Aug. 12, 1770 in Williamsburg, d. Rich'land, VA August 5, 1852. She was the dau. of Wm. Russell, fora long time Clerk of James City County, VA. Children; Wlizabeth, Ann, Portia Cox, & John. In Scott family section of book, there is mention of Col. L.W. Russell, U.S.A. 1861-5, of Salem, N.Y. In Wallace family section of book, there is mention of Col. Albert Russell, and wife, Ann. I hope there is something mentioned that someone can use. Mary Jo
