My greatgrandfather was Edward Russell, son of William (b. ca 1794) and brother of Noah Burt Russell. This is an exciting find - a cousin in my Russell line! This is part of my material: William Russell (William, Oliver, William) b. Stow Creek, NJ, ca 1730: m. Abigail Foster. Children: Rebecca, Kezia, Mary, Abigail, Edward. His will was dated 16 Nov 1787. Edward Russell (William, William, Oliver, William) b. in Stow Creek, NJ, 1752; m. Rhoda Stevens in Deerfield, NJ, 11 Mar 1772. Their child was William, born ca 1794. I do not know other children of this marriage. Edward died 17 Apr 1815. (there may be a skipped generation?) William Russell (Edward, William, William, Oliver, William) b. ca 1794, m. Charlotte Burt in Cumberland Co., NJ 20 Dec 1815. Children were Noah Burt, Edward, John F. (this list comes from family tradition and census records. Thank you for the addition of Irvin Allen and George Burt. What is your source?) Do you have a death record for William? Edward Russell (Wm, Edward, Wm., Wm., Oliver, Wm.) b. Cumberland Co., NJ, 30 May 1820; m. first Patience George in 1841, then Emily Knapp in Bentonville, Fayette, IN, 13 Nov 1851. He had 4 children by his first wife and 8 children with wife Emily, one of which was Charles Edward Russell my grandfather. In Mar, 1999, I put a brief note in Rootsweb: NJCumber-L Russell Family and received a few responses. Check there. Much of my early material is from the file of George Ely Russell and Charles E. Shepherd Papers, checked against NJ vital records. Please share with me your sources if different from mine. You may already have much of this material.
