In 1991, Richard Russell of Indianapolis helped me find land records in exchange for a search of the federal archives for 1900 census records for a Leander Merrit Russell (age 55 in 1900). I was unsuccessful, even after searching the records of every state for Leander, Lee, M.L. and Merit. He may have developed other leads. I do not believe I found any record in the Iowa 1900 census (I still have my research). I have not been in touch with him for at least 5 years.
