Checking this book, for the surname of Russel/Russell: The Sacramento Union newspaper published a list of emigrant deaths for the 1852 season. Listed was Robert Russel (noted possible double L) of Simpsonville, Ky. died June 10, 1852. The list was of emigrants who had died on the plains between May and Jun, 1852. The location was to be between Independence, Missouri and Fort Laramie, a distance of 650 miles.
