    1. Re: [RUSSELL] RUSSELLS IN U.S.A. BEFORE 1850
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Russell, Blanchard Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.russell/3177.3456.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Thanks, Elizabeth! You have a great site! Could you please advise as to your source that Benedict and Catherine were married in New Haven, Connecticut? Any chance you have info on Catherine's maiden name and parentage? FYI, the Joseph living with Benedict and Catherine in 1850 is their grandson (Joseph, son of Amraphael and Matilda (Blanchard) Russell, born New Haven, Huron County, Ohio 6 Jun 1839). I think Catherine must have died prior to 1855, as the New York state census in 1855 has Benedict with wife Nancy, 2 step sons with a different last name (which I couldn't quite read, but is something like Conner) and a boarder. When Benedict died, in 1857, his wife Nancy was executrix of his estate, and he left some real and personal property to "my beloved wife Nancy". The Catherine Russell you located in the 1860 census doesn't exactly match age-wise, and I suspect is not the same one; however, I have been unable to find any death or burial info on Catherine. Just seems unlikely they would have divorced after being married for over forty years and having had five children together. Thanks for your help and interest! -Jim
