Hello Russells Still looking for a connection to William Russell who married Rachel Scott and migrated to North Carolina with his father-in-law Samuel Scott and Mary Jones from AA Co. Maryland and was in North Carolina by 1768-70. William Russell can be found in Wilkes Co. NC with known brothers and sisters of Rachel Scott in land deeds on Bushy Creek. I believe Willam and Rachel had sons John, Elijah and William Russell. I also believe William was a brother to Lettice Russell who m/ Thomas Scott b/ 1755 and died in 1834 in Cumberland Co., KY Scott family research in the 1950 said that Lettice Russell family removed to Missouri. My husband's great great grandmother's maiden name seems to be a bit of a mystery. Some said she was a Morrison, some a Hightower, yet when her marriage to Joseph Delaney MCubbin was found she was listed as Mary Jane Russell. After much digging I found that she was a Morrison with a stepfather named Hightower. I cannot find a marriage to a Russell anywhere so far. They were in Miller Co MO mostly. I was told there was a Mary Russell received a divorce in 1848 in Pulaski Co MO from John Warden Russell and there was no issue with Mary being given her maiden name, but then this would be two different women as our Mary Jane was married under the name of Russell. I have not been able to get the record from Pulaski Co yet. I thought maybe someone could help me with this. I will share what I have if it will help anyone. Linda Fowler Crawford
I am trying to sort out a Rebecca Russell who may be two separate women. In my family line I have a Rebecca Russell that married J.R. Harper in 1848 in Dallas Co MO. She was first married to John B. Mooney in Polk Co MO where he died leaving her with two small children. She married Mr. Mooney with the name of Rebecca Russell. Just a few years before that marriage a Rebecca Grider married a John Russell. She was listed as the daughter of John Grider and Rebecca Sanders. Some say these are the same person, but others say she came from Russellville KY. There were a number of Russell people in the earlier Polk and Dallas County censuses. I have another Russell question to come up in a separate message as I don't think they are connected. The above Rebecca Russell Mooney Harper is buried in our old Fowler-Hurst Cemetery in Dallas Co MO. She died in 1873. J. R. remarried and went to TX. I will be glad to share if I have anything to help anyone. Linda Fowler Crawford.
