    2. Somewhere in the back of my mind, I think I recall someone asking about a William R. Russell of Ohio. I have a William R. Russell b. 1857 in Virginia. In his sister's 1925 obit it says he was a Col. and living in Youngstown, Ohio. He was married to an Emma. Does any of this ring a bell to someone? Clare

    1. [RUSSELL-L] My Russell line
    2. Sherman R. Ervin
    3. I just joined your email group and would like to know if anyone recognizes my line. The farthest back I know of is John Russell b abt 1774 VA. His wife Martha Patsy Granade b abt 1780 VA. They both died in Smith Co. Tenn. Their son ASA Russell was born abt 1800 VA. Asa was mar to Abigail Parkhurst and he died in Smith Co. Ten. Their dau Mary Jane Parkhurst b abt 1835 in Smith Co. Tenn moved to I think the town was Fayette, Ind. Her siblings names are John, Dave, Hale, Benjamin, Willis, William, Martha Karen Silas. These names could be a clue to the names of Asa siblings and parents. I would appreciate hearing from anyone out there who may be connected or have any tips in finding more info. Gloria

    1. [RUSSELL-L] FamilySearch Resource
    2. James Clark, Jr.
    3. It appears that few people who post messages on this site have ever hear of, or tried to use, the LDS FamilySearch resource - www.familysearch.com About 1/3rd of posted requests for RUSSELL ancestors information could easily be found by the requestor, using this LDS web site. Simply select the SEARCH option in the top header to access the vast range of search options. Although the standard "All Resources" search option is adequate for many searches, I recommend use of the IGI (International Genealogical Index) option for more in-depth search and ease of navigation - and that's the one I save in "Favorites" for quick access. The use of the form is pretty straightforward; simply enter all the information you know, or suspect, and initiate a search. If the search result list is too long, it usually provides the clues you need to narrow your search by going back to the original search screen and changing the search data entry. CHILD SEARCH Finding children using this form IS NOT intuitive. Leave all name boxes on the left blank. On the right, enter the father's given name and surname. Enter ONLY the mother's given name for a first try. (Since many Birth/Christening records DO NOT include the mother's maiden-name, those records will be excluded from search results if you include the m.s.) Leave the EVENT box set at "All" DO NOT enter YEAR SPAN or YEAR for a starting search - may be useful later to narrow you search Select the appropriate locations in the bottom boxes, but only specify what you are sure is correct. When in doubt, leave it set for the broadest search. Initial SEARCH. This search provides a listing of all children born to any couple with names matching your entry and location. Click any name on the list to view the entire detail record. Hope this helps many on this site and reduces posting of requests for data that's right at your fingertips. James RUSSELL CLARK

    3. Hello ... I'm at my wit's end (a brief trip) and need help ... For well over 10 years I have had a mysterious RUSSELL husband and father and hope you may recognize him. This RUSSELL married a Catherine (Catherine Frances WHITE?). 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: RUSSELL Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/oZEBAIB/3831 Message Board Post: Hugh RUSSELL, (b. Ireland abt. 1796, d. 21 Dec. 1872). 1860 Census (Marquette Co. WI) records show neighboring families headed by Hance RUSSELL (b. abt. 1823), Francis RUSSELL (b. abt. 1825), Samuel RUSSELL (b. abt. 1829), & James LOW(E) (b. abt. 1827) married to Jane RUSSELL (b. abt. 1832). At present time, I am assuming Hugh is the father of Hance, Francis, Samuel, and Jane. In Hugh's household, the following also appear: Margaret & Robert Russell (both born around 1815 (not twins though as later census records will show). Margaret is 18-19 years Hugh's junior. Don't know if she could be wife, possibly 2nd wife, or daughter of Hugh, but she would definitely be too young to be mother of above children. Would love to share any info about this family. Jane Russell is my GG Grandmother. After James Low's death in 1869, she married again to a man named Thomas Black. To this union, a daughter, Maggie Black was born. Maggie Black is my G Grandmother.
