Married ca.1828, Willet, Cortland County, NY, John Dennis Edwards, (born 1805, Willet, NY, died 1871, Anamosa, Jones County, IA.) Origins of the family (and birthplace) of Mariette/Maryette Russell are unknown. Russell families found in Cortland County in 1820 Census with (unamed) female children of right age are; Josiah Russell, in Willet, Thomas Russell and Josiah Russell in Marathon, all with female children of the right age who could be Mariette. Family history says that the family came from Pennsylvania in an oxcart. The 1850 Cortland Census indicates she was born in NY, (Willet being the obvious place)other sources suggest New Hampshire or Connecticut. Any Russell descendants of these Cortland County lines are of interest to me.

He was married to ? Scarberry. They had a daughter Nellie E Russell who was born in Scioto County on Dec 21, 1908. He and his wife divorced and he eventually ended up in California where he passed away. He was killed when he was struck by a streetcar. I believe he passed away in the early 1940's. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

    3. As a new subscriber, I wonder if this is a list looking at my interest area. Orphaned at an early age, raised by old maid aunts til he was apprenticed to a stone mason in Pittsburg, the first reliable evidence I have of him is his donation land claim filed at Jacksonville Oregon, in 1856 in which he claims to have been born in the US in 1822 and to have entered Oregon Territory on December 1, 1851 and settled on his claim on January 2, 1852. The Southern Oregon Pioneer Association published a resolution on the Death of James H Russell which is reported to have occured on October 1st, 1895. The resolution is published on the web at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hill2oregon/JamHRuss.htm and states that he was born near Natelus, Tennessee April 5th 1923, while the family bible states near Natchez Tenn. I understand they had had 3 chilrdren: Cyril, Hildred and Pauline. I understand the Hildren had twin sons named Harvey Russell and George Rainey Williams. Fr.Thomas William Russell of Hollowbottom, Bromley- Mother Martha Wallis (or Walker) of Plaistow. Harry (Henry) last recorded in Bromley St.Directory 1891at 20 Aylesbury Road. His wife remarried in 1893.
