Surnames: Russell Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/oZEBAIB/3939 Message Board Post: This is probably a lost cause - I have no first names just that a Russell or two would have emigrated to the USA somewhere around this time but if any of your ancestors had a birth certificate when they emigrated then their father would have been the Station Master at Limerick Railway Station and their mother was illiterate. If you have anyone remotely like this in your family - please let me know. Their brother Thomas (my Grandfather), left Ireland for England somewhere around 1917 - 1919 and joined the Army - he fought in WWII and was lost on 1 Oct 1942 on the Lisbon Maru (sunk by USS Grouper a submarine). His son Michael Thomas Russell, his wife Pauline and their daughter Maxine all live in Johannesburg South Africa, their other daughter Lorna lives in Dartford, England and their other daughter Tina lives in Perth, Australia - we kind of move around a bit! We have very little information about Thomas' family as his son was only six when he was killed in the war - but hey, any little will help!
Friends, relatives and genealogists in general: The President of my local genealogical society has just passed a warning regarding California SB 1614. If passed, this bill will close all inquiries to birth and death indices in California. The Senator sponsoring believes that this will put a major dent in identity theft. The Senator apparently has not considered what impact it will have on genealogical research. It is my understanding that the CA Senate Appropriations Committee plans to vote on the bill Monday, May 20. California is the largest state (population wise) and can have a major impact on other states. I live in WA and we're more closely tied to CA than we sometimes care to admit. If this is of concern to you, please email one (or all) of the following: Governor Gray Davis governor@governor.ca.gov Sen Jackie Speier (author) senator.speier@sen.ca.gov Sen Dede Alpert (Chair, Appropriations Comm.) senator.alpert@sen.ca.gov. Thanks, Jim

Hopefully something may click. Our William Russell would be my gggrandfather. We found his name in an 1880 census in MI, he was listed as 36, b. PA, father PA, mother NJ. He wasn't there in 1870, so not sure where he was. 1890, the records are gone, by 1900 the wife (Sarah) is a widow. We have tried to get death records...but none are listed - county or state! It's like he just appeared, then is gone! I am waiting for Ancestry.com to finish indexing the 1860 and 1870 census's then maybe he will turn up on a search. That's about all we know about him.- nothing on parents or siblings... Thanks again! Ruth :)

I have a William Parker Russell b. ca 1827 somewhere in Va. or MD. I do not know his parents but since he used his middle name of Parker as the middle name of one of his sons, I feel there must have been a connection. I've hunted this possibility for several years and I thought that someone may be able to give me some direction. Thanks so very much. Clare
