His daughter, Martha Louise Russell was my g grandmother, married to Ben Rosser in Texas. I have found quite a few records for him in Miss., not in Arkansas and I have found him in Texas. I do not know who his brothers were or any of his family for that matter. He was married 2 times, posssibly 3 times. If you have any info on a Barry Russell, or if you can use what I have on him, I would be glad to share. He has been hard to trace, except for Miss.

Russell's parents were James Wright Russell and wife Nancy Johnston. They were married in 1816 in Orange Co., NC. One of James Wright Russell's brothers was named Robt. Paisley Russell and is buried, I think, in Bonham, Fannin Co., TX. According to my records, Robt. had a son named D.A. Russell (I guess David Almarine?). John R. Russell was my gg grandfather so I guess we're cousins! Ken
I keep seeing messages with Russells in the state of Texas. How far back do you all have your Russell ancestors accounted for in this state? What county? I have Russells that I still have not found any other Russell connection to. Nancy G. Russell, b.1817TN was the widow of a man named John Russell. Their son, Joseph M. Russell, was born in MO in 1835. He and his mother were in Texas prior to 1840. They had land in at least three counties; Henderson, Nacodoches, and Cherokee. After Nancy remarried in 1840 to a minister named Samuel C. Box, they relocated to Houston County for a time. Joseph died of pneumonia in 1860 at the age of 25. He left behind a wife, and at least one surviving child, a son named Samuel, my ggrandfather. Anyway, I am wondering if any of these names sound familiar to anyone. If John passed away prior to the migration to Texas, who did she make the trip with? A young widow with a little baby would probably not make such a trip alone back then! , would they? Can ya'll here my questions bouncing off that same old brick wall of mine? Oh, WHY couldn't Nancy have married Ferdinand Deefendorfer, or something! Mary Jo Moody, TX

In your time period I have a John Jay Russell born in DesMoines in 1859 and his sister Mary L born same place in 1857. Father was Oliver born in Indiana in 1833.What I am trying to find is why Oliver took his wife to Iowa about 1856/7 and had 2 kids then came back to Indiana where he enlisted in the Union army. I am speculating some other family members preceeded him to Iowa and wonder if any of your Russells had a Quaker background and were from Ohio or Penns. areas. There were lots of children in these Russell familys and they seem to spread out in the farm lands in Indiana, Ohio, Illinoise and Iowa. PaulD
