    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/oZEBAIB/3275.1 Message Board Post: Once again, you probably have this information, but here goes: Elam Mitzel Russell (who was a doctor according to my notes) was born about 1873. He was the son of John Benjamin Russell (b. about 1828 in Tennessee) and Charlotte Knight (m. October 4, 1860 in Smith County Tennessee and daughter of Henry Knight and Rhoda Hester). John Benjamin Russell was the son of Elam Russell, b. 1802 in Virginia. This Elam married Artemicia Cornwell, daughter of Charles Cornwell and Millie Cornwell. Besides John Benjamin, Elam and Artemicia had a son named James "Franklin" Russell, b. about 1827 and a son named Elijah "Hampton" Russell, b. about 1844 in Tennessee. They also, among other children, had a daughter named Patsy Russell who married, guess who--a man named "Pink" Law. (I believe that takes care of the uncles). Now Elam's father was John Russell, b. in 1778 in Virginia and died about March 1851 in Smith County, Tennessee. He married Martha Granade. And that's as far as I c! an get you because no-one has been able to figure out who John's parents are. This John's brother, also an Elam, came with him from Virginia and this Elam is my ancestor. Good luck finding the missing link. I have a wild lead but doubt it is anything. I noticed in my hunting for Elams that some Russells migrated to Australia and one generation of them was named Elam and another generation had a John. And guess where they were from -- somewhere around Great Britain. Perhaps they were relatives. Don't know. Will try and contact these Russells for some info.

Their son Samuel Russell, born about 1820 was married to Jemimah C. McClellan. Their son, Elam Russell, b about 1848, died between 1892-1900 married Consady Woods Russell. Their son was Bluford Eugene Russell. He married Stella Susan Dycus Russell and their child was named Ruby Russell.

    3. When posting messages to an international web site, keep in mind that half the readers believe Oz is a fictional place with a "Yellow Brick Road" to Emerald City. DO NOT assume that everyone knows that Australians use the term to refer to their homeland, Australia. Now a new Australian abbreviation has hit the internet message boards - Qld. Few foreign readers will understand that this refers to Queensland, not some only named city. Is it any wonder people in Australia have trouble getting genealogy help from outsiders? Less abbreviation might really help - only takes a few more keystrokes to be clear and concise. Jim Clark U.S.A.

    3. Dear Evelyn, May have hit a bit of luck. Using the LDS FamilySearch web site, I found the following - Mary Elizabeth RUSSEL Birth: 13 Jan 1877 - Clonakitty, Cork, Ireland Parents - Father: Thomas RUSSEL, Mother: Elizabeth Russel SPILLER Please keep in mind the LDS data is frequently erroneous, but usually a good place to start. The only path to true genealogy would be to take this lead and try to obtain a birth record from Cork. Further search in the LDS site might turn up information about Thomas RUSSEL and Elizabeth SPILLER. I found that the surname SPILLER is very common around the Clonakitty, Cork area, in fact many girls named Elizabeth SPILLER but all record dates are far to early to be a link. Hoping this helps a bit, James Russell CLARK, Jr. ----- Original Message ----- From: <emharding37@picknowl.com.au> To: <RUSSELL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, November 09, 2002 5:11 PM Subject: [RUSSELL-L] RUSSELL Mary Elizabeth c1870s Ireland > Hope to find some info on my grandmother, Mary Elizabeth RUSSELL born in either Cork or Dublin in Ireland c mid 1870s.
