Do you remember Margaret, Clint's wife? She's his daughter in law. Cousin Stella, of Columbus, Ohio, Uncle Luther's daughter, told me he died in an accident the first day of work for the city of Marion. I guess it was rather suspicious, since he apparently was the first Black man they hired in his capacity. I think he drove some type of vehicle which fell on him or something, according to her. Perhaps you can find some info on it and share that with me. I have been trying to find Susan Hairston on the internet but, had no luck so far. Ask Cousin Carolyn if they hear from her. I'm researching my husbands line in genealogy and have come to a block and thought I'd toss this to the list and see if anyone has a ring of familiarity of this line or suggestions on where I should look next. Erastus Russell was my husbands gg grandfather and born in North Carolina in Madison county, I find him as a child in the 1880 census in spring Creek Madison co. NC with his siblings and parents Earl A. Russell and Elisabeth. Erastus had a son named Earl A. who was my husbands ggrandfather who later changed his last name to Anderson and moved to Fulton county Ohio, he married a Sallie Lindsey in NC and she went by Sarah in Ohio. I was "Told" by family that he was buried in SC or NC so apparently he went back there at some point. Anyone familiar with this line of Russells? Russell, 82, of Black Hall Road died Saturday at home. He was born in Hardwick, Vt., the son of Archie and Nina (Gusher) Russell. He lived in Pembroke for almost 40 years before moving to Epsom seven years ago. He was an Army veteran. He worked at the Brezner Tannery in Penacook for 29 years. He was a member of the VFW Moose lodge in Concord. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was in several bowling leagues over the years. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Beulah (Hilliard) Russell of Epsom; three sons, Gene Hilliard of Epsom, Wallace Russell of Epsom and Randall Russell of Concord; three brothers, Alfonzo Russell and Franklin Russell, both of Vermont, and Archie Russell of Concord; two sisters, Lauriana Dore of Concord and Katie Plume of New York; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Two sons, Wendell Russell and Gary Russell, died previously. Calling hours will be held tomorrow from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Perkins Funeral Home & Monument Co., 60 Main St., Pittsfield. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. John Loker, pastor of the Chichester United Methodist Church, will officiate. My Great Grandfather was William F.(Fredrick or Freeman) Russell. He was born in Nov. of 1858 in NY. His Mother was also born in N.Y. and his father was born in Conn. He lived in Long Prairie Minnesota where he ran or worked in a Confectionary shop in the 1890s He married Emma Adams in 1896 and had one son. They moved to Washington State about 1900. There is conflicting information as to what happened to him after that. My father said that he had died but others said that he went to England. I would appreciate any help anyone could give me to find what happened to William F. Russell or who his family were. C. Russell
