Folks I rarly find my way to this list anymore mostly it is because I never get a reply to my Questions. I am willing to give this another stab. I am only guessing at a possible never proved one way or the other. I have in my family ancestry a child of Nahum Amos and Sarepta (Norton) King. They birthed 16 live children between Their marriage in New York 1807. The first 3 children daughters were born by 1811. It was by the time that they arrived in Madison County, Ohio by way of a short stay in Vermont. A son was born there and named James Russel or Russell King. (I have seen both spellings of the middle name which leads me to believe the Russel or Russell is a surname of someone important to this family. Allow me to back up in this family and provide where a Russel or Russell surname may fit in. In 1710 Salem Massachusetts William King one of 7 children was born to Jonathan and Sarah (Cooke) King. (William Kinge Sr. (1); John King Sr. (2); Jonathan King Sr. (3)) William married first Hannah Mitchel in 1740 in Salem then by 1743 the location of two births is at this time still unknown as William's location and or more children is not known until 1755 when William shows up in New Salem, Hampshire County at that time ran west to the Hudson River. The two known children are Hannah and William Jr. In 1755 William King Sr. brings with him a wife who was thought to be Mary Andrews and later now in the present proved that this Mary Andrews was married to William King's first cousin William King and they had remained in Salem until her death in 1759 when the other William King married a second time still in Salem Massachusetts. Now returning to New Salem, Hampshire county the wife of William King Sr. birthed first a son Amos King in 1756, Johnathan then Sarah and finally Steven in 1761. Unfortunately all the vital records of New Salem burned in a fire that nearly destroyed the town of New Salem in 1920 and there are not copies anywhere. What records there are simply state that some church records are all that have been found. Amos served in the Revolutionary war in several places under the command of a cousin including a March on Canada, and Cherry Valley. Amos married Hopestill Hoskins in New Salem where 2 sons were born in July 1783 and in 1785. In the latter year Amos removed his family to Lebanon Springs in Columbia County, New York. Several children are named as born to this family. In 1883 a Biological sketch had been located in the archives of Nebraska by a daughter in law who wrote that Amos had married the first wife had 6 children very close in age and had died no reason was given. The daughter in law then wrote that her husband was one of 9 children born after the death of wife # 1 that they raised 7 to maturity and had departed Columbia County, New York by 1839 when Amos had died. No record had been searched for until the second marriage was discovered. The grave of this Revolutionary War Veteran or the graves of either wife have been found however it is known that Amos selected his grave site a week before his death and had walked to it. The son who came to Nebraska had removed to Niagara County, Illinois and then to Nebraska. I am trying to find if it is possible that William King Sr. IV had married a second wife who is at this time unnamed in any vital records and might be a Russel or Russell by surname. A second marriage was never acutally proved until the papers of Hannah King had married Timothy Upton and wrote for her sister Sarah that in 1755 her father had move "HIS FAMILY" to New Salem. Sarah had applied for a aged pension from the village and needed proof that her birth was in New Salem. I know that this may not go anywhere however it is possible that if the Russel or Russell family is traced somone may have found a woman married to William King in about 1755 give or take a few years residing in New Salem, MA. The boy died of mosquito diseases in Ohio at a young age not an infant and is buried in Madison County, Ohio. Daniel Original post has been snipped as not needed for this query

I do not have any knowledge of this family. My Russell line came from Massachusetts to Saratoga County, town of Saratoga, New York about 1805. Cornelius Russell born before 1756 He was Married 20 Nov. 1783 to Hannah Barrow Bristol County Mass. 1790 census lists family with children in Bristol. They appear in Town of Saratoga (Hamlet of Quaker Springs), County of Saratoga, NY in the 1810 census. With children John born abt 1784. Abraham born abt.1788. Mahala born abt. 1790. Later census data indicates they arrived there about 1805. All but John stayed in Quaker Springs. They stayed in the area until there death. We have hit a brickwall looking for information about my grandfather's grandfather Thomas Russell who was born at Chilworth Hants in 1807. We know his mother was Sarah but know nothing more about his parents or siblings. He married Diana (various forms of spelling) Cooper on 3 April 1828 at Richmond upon Thames, Middlsex. Diana was born 1806 in Hounslow Middlesex. Every census from 1841 - 1871 has he and his family living in Romsey Hampshire where quite a few of them are buried at the Botley Road Cemetary. Any suggestions are appreciated. Smiles Pat (Darwin Aus)

One time off subject only. Dose anyone have any information on Ms. Jane Russel, the movie actress that lived in Columbus, Georgia while her husband Bob Waterfield was station at Fort Benning , Georgia. She lived down on lower Broad and rented a room from a lady who was a Nursse. There is someone at the Museam who wants to have a Bronze Plaque in front of the house Ms. Russell lived in. Ms. Russell was active while she was living in Columbus, Georgia. Ms. Russell sold War Bonds and rode the bus back and forth to Fort Benning. She was friendly with the neighbors and seem to be well liked. Ms. Russell had just made a movie "The Outlaw" which was banded in Columbus, Georgia. She went on to make many movies and was on Television the "Spoke Lady" for the 18 hour Bra. If you have a story or two about Ms. Russell would you please share it with us? My Glory Days. Sandra W. Hi there list members, Concerning James Russel(l) King. This name is of my second great grandfather's older brother. It has been giving me fits for years. One of my cousins is sure that the middle name Russell had some connection to one of our ancestors wives. Up until recently we did not have a Russell surname possible in our lineup. This King family has been extensively researched until it gets rubbed raw. As of now it is well established that my William King born 1710 and is the son of Jonathan and Sarah (Cooke) King of Salem. Salem vital records connect him in papers filed in June 1719. It might possibly be by some mere chance that we might have a second marriage of William King to a Russell. It is William's grandson who named their son James Russell King. The James we are certain that this given name is for his maternal grandfather James Alexander Norton of Canaan, Columbia county, New York and Madison County, Ohio. Or maybe not that is still a question unanswered at this time. I could be mistaken as I wasn't around to ask and neither was anyone else that I know. My grand aunt once upon a time had Nahum King's family bible. James Russel(l) King is the only child with a middle name male or female of the 16 children that they raised. We know that our William King married first Hannah Mitchell and older woman in 1741 and they had two children. By the time that Hannah could have added more children that started with our Amos Nahum King in New Salem, Hamilton County, Massachusetts she would have been more than 50 years old. Knowing this fact I figure that William must have married a second time but we don't know who that woman in a second marriage would be. The underlying reason is that for many years there was a William King, thought to be our William, who married about that time to Mary Andrews daughter of Captain Nathaniel and Mary (Higginson) Andrews. However recently I discovered that the Mary Andrews who married William had to be another William King who turns out to be the son of Samuel and Elizabeth King of Salem. Still he is a first cousin to my William. The reason that he is missed is possibly due to the fact that Samuel married a second woman named Elizabeth and she is a widow but he had children by both women. Their marriage is missed on most records except for the vital records of Salem MA. Mary Andrews King died in 1759 and did not have children with our King names. In 1756 Hannah King wrote a letter to the city fathers of New Salem saying that her father moved his family to New Salem. In 1756 Amos Nahum was born to them. We believe that Amos was named to honor Amos Nahum Foster his brother in law husband of Abigail King. In 1759 Sarah joined the King family followed by Jonathan in 1761. The family moved after this to Shutesbury where Stephen was born into the family. Stephen is not previously a King given name either in this lies another possibility. About 1781 William is then a widower living once again with the Foster family in New Salem. Abigail has died previously. Neither William or his wife's place of death or internment has been located. I am looking to find if it is possible that the missing second wife of William who might be somehow be connected to the Russell family through marriage possibly about 1755. This might answer the question of the naming of James with a middle name when all his siblings did not have a middle name. All this is just grasping at intelligent straws that may bear fruit some day. -- Thank you in advance, your input and help is sincerely appreciated!
