Longmont newspaper Longmont, Colorado 05-25-02 Dec. 25, 1922 - May 23, 2002 Elma Lydia Stoppel of Longmont died Thursday, May 23, 2002, at Applewood Living Center. She was 79. She was born Dec. 25, 1922, to George and Anna (Hoff) Walker in Johnstown. She moved from Johnstown to Longmont when she was 11. On Oct. 2, 1955, she married Marland Earl Stoppel at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Longmont. Mrs. Stoppel worked for Gates Rubber Co., Remington Firearms and the telephone company prior to her marriage. She also was a homemaker and mother. She was a member of Calvary Church in Longmont and the Hello Neighbor Club. She loved riding with her husband in his antique cars. Mrs. Stoppel was preceded in death by her husband on June 16, 1991; an infant son, Joel Stoppel; and two sisters, Florence Peppler and Gladys Lebsack. She is survived by two sons, Jay Stoppel and Torey Stoppel, both of Longmont; two brothers, Albert Walker and Paul Walker, both of Longmont; two sisters, Carrie Vogel of Chandler, Ariz., and Alvina Vogel of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a granddaughter, Morgan; and numerous nieces and nephews. Cremation will be held at Ahlberg Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 30, at Calvary Church, 2101 Gay St., Longmont, with the Rev. Tom Hovestol officiating. Private inurnment will be held at Foothills Gardens of Memory.
