Longmont newspaper Longmont, Colorado 05-25-02 Lela M. Boone of Longmont died Wednesday, May 22, 2002, at Life Care Center of Longmont. She was 94. She was born May 17, 1908, to Clarence and Gertrude (Bruner) Smith in Amy, Kan. On Jan. 20, 1929, she married Roy Boone in Great Bend, Kan. Mrs. Boone worked as a school teacher, head cook at Dighton Grade School in Dighton, Kan., and telephone operator. In 1961, she moved to Longmont from Kansas and attended beauty school in Denver. She was a beautician at Frasier Meadows Manor before retiring to work from home. Mrs. Boone was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Longmont. She enjoyed sewing clothes for her daughters and granddaughters, gardening, canning and making jams, jellies, cakes from scratch and laundry soap. In March 1995, she suffered a stroke and moved to Life Care Center of Longmont. Mrs. Boone was preceded in death by her former husband, Roy Boone; two brothers, Floyd and Vinton Smith; two sisters, Velma Seward and Mary Nitz; and a granddaughter, Lanita Vandine Clark. She is survived by three daughters, Phyllis Hale and her husband Don of Longmont, Mary Jane Boone of Longmont and Norma Jean Clark of Cimarron, Kan.; a sister, Estelene Child of Colorado Springs; two brothers, Kenneth Smith of Pampa, Texas, and Roland Smith of Clovis, Calif.; six grandchildren, Dale Clark, Norma Alene Immroth, Delbert Clark, Donna Luginbuhl, Karen Hale and Gary Hale; 10 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two nephews; and three nieces. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today, Friday, May 24, at Howe Mortuary in Longmont. Funeral services will follow at 4 p.m. at Howe Mortuary Chapel, with the Rev. Rick Cross of Faith Baptist Church officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held in Dighton.
