    3. Longmont newspaper Longmont, Colorado 05-25-02 Francis D. Allman of Longmont died Sunday, May 19, 2002, at Longmont United Hospital. He was 83. He was born Aug. 13, 1918, to Samuel and Rosie (Shangrew) Allman in Pine Ridge, S.D. He was raised on the Indian Reservation in the Pine Ridge area. He served in the U.S. Marines and fought in the Pacific theater during World War II. After returning from the war, he married Sarah Conroy on June 17, 1940, in Rushville, Neb. The family moved to Longmont in 1962 from Pine Ridge. Mr. Allman was a sheet metal worker and a member of the local sheet metal workers union in Denver. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2901 and the Disabled American Veterans. Mr. Allman enjoyed fishing and Indian Bead work, at which he was quite accomplished. He was preceded in death by two sons, Norman and Orlin Allman; seven brothers; and five sisters. Mr. Allman is survived by his wife of Longmont; four sons, Robert Allman and his wife Viola of Los Lunas, N.M., Delbert Allman of Kodoka, S.D., Frank Allman and his wife Hollie of Albert Lea, Minn., and Larry Allman of Longmont; a daughter, Shirley Ortiz of Rapid City, S.D.; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 9 to 5 p.m. today, May 21, at Howe Mortuary, Longmont. Graveside services will be held at Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, S.D. Rook and Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City is handling arrangements. Back to the top
