He was born Nov. 13, 1926, on the family farm near > Buckingham to Fred H. and Katherine Croissant. On July 3, 1947, he married > Clara Mae George in Greeley. During his youth, Mr. Croissant helped work the > family farm during World War II. He continued to farm with his brother > William until 1970. He worked as a heavy equipment operator at Webster Feed > Lot, then Law Equipment. He then worked as a long-distance truck driver for > Farr Farms until it closed in 1987. He then drove trucks for John Shockley > for two years and retired in 1989. Mr. Croissant was a warm and caring > person who was always willing to help others. He specially loved his wife > and family. He enjoyed his flowers and gardening. Survivors are his wife, > Clara; a son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Deborah Croissant of Greeley; a > daughter-in-law, Nancy Bruggentheis of Ouray; two sisters, Emma Haas and > Frieda Rady, and a brother, Paul R. Croissant, all of Greeley; three > grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. His parents, a son Ronald > Eugene Croissant and 10 siblings, Fred F., Henry, William, John, Edward, > Reuben, Erwin, Arthur, Wilmer and an unnamed infant, are deceased. Services > will be at 11 a.m. today at St. Paul's Congregational Church. Inurnment will > be at a later date at Sunset Memorial Gardens. He was born Feb. 7, 1916, in Great Bend, Kan., to Eugene and > Flossie (Brown) Ewalt. Mr. Ewalt grew up in Great Bend and attended Great > Bend schools. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II from > November 1940 to December 1945. On Aug. 18, 1941, he married Maryellen > Carter in Reno, Nev. They lived in Great Bend, San Francisco and Cimarron, > Kan., before moving to Holcomb, Kan., in 1949. Mrs. Ewalt died March 30, > 1997. Mr. Ewalt moved to Greeley in 1999. A farmer, Mr. Ewalt also was a > seed dealer for DeKalb Seeds for 28 years. He retired from farming in 1980 > and retired from DeKalb in 1990. He enjoyed playing snooker, watching > television and eating out. Mr. Ewalt was a member of the American Legion and > Veterans of Foreign Wars in Garden City, Kan., and the American Association > of Retired Persons. He served on the Finney County, Kan., fair board for > several years and as a grain inspector for the Finney County Agricultural > Stabilization and Conservation Service. Survivors are a daughter and > son-in-law, Nancy and Roger Culbreath of Gill; a sister, Clara Smith of > Great Bend; a stepsister, Julia Bruce of Santa Fe, N.M.; two grandchildren; > and four great-grandchildren. His parents, four brothers and a sister are > deceased. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Garnand Funeral Home in > Garden City. Interment will be in the Greencrest Cemetery in Dodge City, > Kan.
