He was 87. : : He was born April 6, 1914, in Salt Lake City to Fred G. and Lydia : (Schaffert) Harsch. He moved with his parents to Johnstown in 1918. : : He attended schools there and graduated from Johnstown High School in 1932. : He attended the University of Colorado in 1932 and 1933, and returned again : to CU in 1938 and graduated from the School of Business in 1940. : : He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1941 and served during World War : II with duty stations in Australia and the Philippines. He was honorably : discharged in 1945. : : He married Evelyn M. Johnson on July 3, 1945, in Longmont. They had met and : become engaged in 1941, and together they lived in Longmont from 1945 until : 1960. : : They moved to Fort Collins in 1960 and moved to Denver in 1962, and moved : back to Longmont a year later. : : Ferrin had a 31-year career in the lumber business, working for Fred Harsch : Lumber Co. in Johnstown, Berthoud, and Longmont; Anderson Lumber Co. in Fort : Collins and Denver; and from 1963 until his retirement in 1976, he was part : owner and operator of Valley Home Improvement in Longmont. : : He was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Longmont, where : he sang in the choir for 44 years. He also served on the church council and : on various other committees. He became a member of the Longmont Kiwanis Club : in 1936 and served as president in 1952. In recent years, he had been a : member of the Golden K Kiwanis Club. He served on the original board of : directors for the Longmont Community Hospital and later on the board for : Longmont United Hospital. He was secretary for the Water User Association : District 6, served on the board of directors for the Denver Reserve Supply : Company and the Longmont Humane Society. He was a member of the Longmont : Board of Appeals and Adjustments, the St. Vrain Historical Society and St. : Vrain Lodge #23 A.F. and A.M. : : Since his retirement, he and Evelyn enjoyed traveling extensively, visiting : 49 of the 50 states, Canada and the Caribbean. : : He is survived by his wife Evelyn of Longmont; a sister, Rosemary Clay and : her husband Walter of Pueblo; a sister-in-law Narice Pace and her husband : Charles of Camarillo, Calif.; and by nieces, nephews, grandnieces and : grandnephews. : : Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, at Ahlberg Funeral : Chapel. : : Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, at First : Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev.
