    3. The Herald News Haxton, and Fleming Colorado 10-20-01 R. Schaefer, 81, Haxtun, died Oct. 5, 2001 in Fort Collins. He was born on Feb. 1, 1920, in Oxford, Neb. Lee was the son of Myra (Maxon) and Jacob Schaefer. In 1931, he moved with his parents to a farm 13 miles south and two miles east of Haxtun. In 1936 the family moved to another farm 12 miles south and one and a half miles east of Haxtun. Lee completed his eighth year of education at Bryant School. In 1951, Lee married Thyra Ottosen in Golden. He worked for Ernest Bailey in the station and bulk plant in Haxtun from 1953 to 1962. After Bailey retired in 1962, Lee opened Lee’s Auto Parts Store, Haxtun, and operated it until 1995. His hobbies were hunting and fishing as his health would allow. Survivors include his wife Thyra Schaefer, Haxtun; sons, Dave Schaefer and wife Kathy, Haxtun, Anthony Schaefer, Cheyenne, Wyo., and Dan Schaefer and wife Mariko, California; brothers, Calvin Schaefer, Haxtun, Virgil Schaefer, Yuma, and Max Schaefer, Republic, Mo.; and one grandchild. Lee was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers Willard and Larry Schaefer. Funeral services were conducted at Church Of The Brethren, Haxtun, on Oct. 9, 2001, with Rev. Roy Pfaltzgraff officiating. Burial followed at Fleming Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Church of The Brethren, c/o Tennant Funeral Home, P.O. Box 486, Haxtun, CO 80731. Funeral arrangements were under the care of Tennant Funeral Home, Haxtun.
