Huffman, 97, of Sterling, died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2001 in : Sterling. : : isitation will be from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 25, at : Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on : Wednesday, Sept. 26, at Christ United Methodist Church with the Rev. T.L. : Phillips officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery. : : r. Huffman was born on July 30, 1904 to John and Estella (Bean) Huffman in : Randolf, Iowa. In March 1907 the family moved to a homestead north of Limon. : He graduated from Limon High School in 1924, where he lettered in football, : basketball and baseball. : : e went to Colorado A & M (now Colorado State University) from 1924 through : 1929, where he played freshman football and lettered in varsity track. He : graduated with majors in animal husbandry and agronomy. : : e came to Logan County in the fall of 1929 to teach and coach at Fleming : High School. From 1929 until 1940 Fleming had winning football teams with : five championships. His judging teams in stock and grain products were : consistent winners. : : n June 22, 1941 he married Velma Morris at the Fleming Community Church. : They moved to Sterling in January 1949. He started Huffman Building Products : and was in the building block business until 1963, when the business was : sold. : : e was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. He held various church : offices and taught Senior High Sunday School classes. He was active with the : Boy Scouts of America and served many years on the Executive Board of the : Long Peaks Council. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. : : r.
