    1. [Rus-Frank] [Fwd: [GV] 2 new Wyoming census indexes added, Laramie & Goshen Counties]
    2. -------- Original Message -------- Subject: [GV] 2 new Wyoming census indexes added, Laramie & Goshen Counties From: Patrice Miller <patrice@attbi.com> To: GER-VOLGA-L@rootsweb.com 2 new Wyoming census indexes of Germans from Russia have been added to the census list. They are for Laramie county and Goshen county. http://www.webbitt.com/volga/census.htm Gene Jenkins (jenkinsgen@nwinfo.net) completed each of these in a day, they are small by his standards, only a few hundred people each. To put it in perspective, Gene has indexed 60,000 Germans from Russia! Yes thats correct, 60,000. Kind of boggles the mind. Combine that with the 4,000 that Janet Laubhan Flickinger indexed, and we are up to 64,000. Since there were approximately 120,000 Volga Germans in America for the 1920 census according to Richard Sallet, half of the Volga Germans are indexed here. Wow, I never thought we would get that many. (Note: if you cannot see the Wyoming links on the census page, hit the refresh or reload button on your browser) Here is population table of GRs in the 1920 census form Richard Sallets book, Russian-German Settlements in the United States. http://www.webbitt.com/volga/settle-pop.htm This book is available in the AHSGR bookstore on their website. 2. -------- Original Message -------- Subject: New G-R Census Indexes, Marion Cty, KS & Huron Cty, MI From: Patrice Miller <patrice@attbi.com> To: German Volga Mail List <GER-VOLGA-L@rootsweb.com> I am please to announce 2 additions to the German Russian Census Indexes. http://www.webbitt.com/volga/census.htm Marion County Kansas has now been completed by Janet Laubhan Flickinger (janflick@informatics.net). This massive index contain 7,312 individuals. Wow. Previously the Marion county index included only half the county. The complete county is now on the website. So if you could not find your ancestors in this county before, try again. Also Gene Jenkins (jenkinsgen@nwinfo.net) has completed Huron County, Michigan. Thank you once again Janet and Gene!! Also you may notice all the G-R census indexes are on their own page now at: http://www.webbitt.com/volga/census.htm There is a new search box for just the census indexes. The search will only find exact matches and with so many mispellings in the censuses, you may not find your ancestors using the search function. If not, be sure to browse the census index for your county. Patrice Miller

    3. Pastors in Frank & Brunnental As printed in the Brunnental Village Newsletter, May 1998 Issue, edited by Sherrie Stahl, 15234 NW Troon Wy, Portland OR 97229-0917 (Email: sherriestahl@attbi.com) ------------------------------------------------------ Editor's Note: I want to thank Joanne Krieger who lives here in Portland, Oregon for sharing a book she found which gives us the names of the Pastors who served in the various churches in Russia and also has pictures of some of these pastors and their respective churches. In this book, entitled, "DIE KIRCHEN UND DAS RELIGIÖSE LEBEN DER RUSSLAND DEUTSCHEN, by Joseph Schnurr. This particular book was printed in Stuttgart, 1972, and has the catholic (Teil I) and evangelical/protestant (Teil II) sections in the same book. AHSGR also has copies of the book from 1978 and 1980, that contain the catholic and evang./prot. sections in separate volumes. We were able to find information about the various pastors, including the years they served, their birth and death dates (if known), and other interesting facts. You will note under each village it gives the date the church was built first, and then gives the population for the village in 1905. For many of you who have the "family registers" from your ancestral village, you will note the pastors signature at the bottom. Some of you may even have baptismal papers, or copies of the church records obtained from Dr. Igor Pleve in Russia. Information on these pastors will be of interest to you. One of these pastors may have married or baptized your ancestors. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * FRANK-----Page 344... 38. 1. [Rus-Frank] children's book research/roll call/settlement
    2. My great grandparents, Anna Elizabeth SCHAEFER Lesser and Jacob Frederick LESSER were born in Frank in 1868 and 1860. My great-aunt Anna was born in Frank in 1891. Jacob and Anna Elizabeth applied for US citizenship in Kansas in 1892. My grandfather, Frederick Adolph Lesser was born in Lehigh, Kansas, Marion County in 1898. His sisters Evelyn and Lyla were later born in Warden, Washington (near Ritzville.) His other brothers were Adolph and Theodore. He grew up in the Warden, Ritzville, Moses Lake area of Eastern Washington. He later moved to Seattle to go to college. He met my grandmother while living in Spokane. They later moved to Seattle and raised their family. His brother Adolph (Happy) Lesser (b. Lehigh Kansas, 1893) died in Colville, WA in 1964. Anna Elizabeth ran a boarding house (in Moses Lake? Colville?) and died in Colville in 1932. Evelyn and Lyla moved to California - no children. If anyone knew them, would love to hear. I am researching for a children's book which tells the story of Frank, Russia from its beginning in 1767 to its end in WWII. The story is told through the eyes of the daughters and great great granddaughters through the generations. It traces these great great (etc.) granddaughters through the years in Frank, to Siberia, to Germany and to modern day US. I would be interested in any information about details of life in Frank - of any period, as well as details of the lives of those later exiled or emigrated. If there is anyone who would like to share their stories I would be happy to hear. Thanks, Laura Hurley lkh@qwest.net (address will be changed to lkhurley@msn.com in two weeks.)
