Hi Guys, Found the following on a Roots Web database and remembered some people interested in Rudd's over in Salyersville, KY. Sounds like Mark Hammons, who posted this, has quite a collection of southern Rudds. Ron, have you e-mailed him about your J.W.G. Rudd? Maybe he has an answer! Van Rudd Ann Arbor, MI ------------------------Original Posting------------------ County Jailers named Rudd Posted by Mark Hammons <mrhammon@zoomnet.net> on Sun, 04 Jun 2000, in response to Rudds of Salyersville, KY, posted by Janet Rudd Melendez on Sat, 03 Jun 2000 Surname: RUDD Leota Rudd Keeton's father, Allen D. Rudd was Magoffin Co. jailer starting in the 1890's. In the 1900 Magoffin Co. census, A.D. Rudd is listed as the county jailer. In the Magoffin Co. Court orders, Allen Rudd's son, John Boyd Rudd, was appointed Deputy jailer in 1898. Allen Rudd's brother, David Rudd, was Magoffin Co. jailer around the 1920's. Exactly how long either of these men served as jailer, I don't know. James and Dorcas Rudd were Allen and David's parents. They came to White Oak, along what is now the Morgan/Magoffin Co. line about 1854. They came from Tazewell Co., VA. Dorcas' maiden name was Payne. I have been unable to find anything further on her family. James Rudd's parents were Archiblad and Nancy Woosley Rudd. I have info on the Rudd family going back to the late 1600's in Chesterfield Co., VA. - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- --
