Joliet; was born in Lafayette, IN, Nov. 3, 1840; removed with his father's family to Joliet Township, Will Co., IL, when 1 year old; he worked upon his father's farm until 24 years of age, when his father died and Mr. Rudd became the possessor of his present farm, which consists of sixty acres of well-improved land, valued at $50 per acre. Randolph; is a native of Westmoreland County, England; born in April 1822; is the son of Anthony and Ann RUDD; at the age of 16, he entered upon an apprenticeship at the blacksmith's trade, in his native county; at 21, he removed to Manchester, England, and continued his trade till 1859. Here, in 1852, he married Miss Lucy [BENNETT], daughter of Nathaniel and Mary BENNETT, and in spring of 1859, they emigrated to America, and settled in the village of Randolph, Dodge County, Wisconsin, where he followed his trade for six years; in 1865, on account of poor health he gave up the trade, and bought a farm of eighty acres, in Section 7, town of Westford, where he has since devoted his time to the life of a farmer; they have had three children: John and Mary A., both of whom died in England, and Lucy E.; the family is connected with the Congregational Church. Etna; born 27 March 1839 in Westmoreland, England; when about two years old he came with his parents to America; in about 1845 they came to La Fayette County; he owns about 111 acres of land; followed mining till about 1856; since then he has been farming; his father died 14 March 1858, aged 43 years; has been Justice of the Peace; for the past six years District School Clerk; has been Chairman of the Town Board; is Chairman of the Republican Central Committee. He enlisted in 1862 in Company C, 33rd Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry; was discharged in July 1863, on account of physical disability. He was graduated from Union College in 1873, taking the Clark Essay & Phi Beta Kappa honors. He was admitted to the bar in 1875. In the same year the law department of Union University conferred upon him the degree of LL.B. and Union College in 1876, that of A.M. In 1877 he associated with Hamilton and Frederick Harris in the firm of Harris & Rudd, which continued until 1900; he is now associated with William L. Visscher. Mr. Rudd was captain of the Olympic Boat Club of Albany, and was prominent as an oarsman and coach. He was a member of the Board of Public Instruction and president of the board in 1893. In 1894 he was Corporation Counsel of Albany. He is a trustee of the Young Men’s Association, and he was the organizer of the Albany County Bar Association, being elected its president five times. He is Regent of Philip Livingston Chapter, Sons of the Revolution; trustee of the Historical Society, trustee of the Albany County Savings Bank, member of the Fort Orange, the Country and the University Clubs, Albany; the Republican, the Alpha Delta Phi and the Transportation Clubs, New York City; trustee Albany Chamber of Commerce, inspector of election N.Y.C. railroads and other corporations constituting the Vanderbilt system. In 1883 Mr. Rudd married Aimee Pierson Allen of Albany. Their son is Tracey Allen Rudd. Mr. Rudd’s address is 373 State Street, Albany.
