Family tradition says his parents were perhaps James Rudd (born >between 1840 and 1860), or James Christopher Rudd, or Chris Rudd... Hi Michael, Just a thought...have you found this James RUDD in census records? He is probably with his parents and you should find some good information. Be sure to note any other RUDDs living in the same area; they may well be relatives. The Dakota Territory 1885 census shows several RUDDs from Norway were in the area so you may well be on the right trail! http://www.lib.ndsu.nodak.edu/database/1885census.html The census look up site might be useful if you do not live near a LDS family history or other library where you can view census films: http://www.rootsweb.com/~uslookup/ Good luck and hope this helps, Jennifer
