My branch of Rudds left Co. Wexford, Ireland, around 1816 (1822?) to go to Gananoque/Landsdowne, Ontario. This is just over the St. Lawrence River from Alexandria Bay, NY. While my Rudd greatgrandparents left Canada to go to Michigan, there were other sibs. Some stayed in Canada; I have communication with an older distant cousin in London, Ontario. I can't remember now if any went over the bridge in to NY. Having once lived in Watertown, NY, just miles from Alexandria Bay, I remember the occasional Rudd obituary turning up in the North Country counties and "wondering". The London, Ont. cousin traced pretty much all of our ancestors well back in to Ireland (connections all the way back to 1630), but I'm out of town for 3 weeks, trapped in a hotel for nearly another 2 weeks. So, I don't have access to his records at the moment. I don't remember any New Yorkers, but it's also been a while since I looked at Rudds outside of my line. A long time. Will try to remember when I get home to check out Irish Canadian Rudds who might have come to the US in to NY.
