    1. RE: [RUDD] the Rudd Family Research Assn book from the US

    3. I am researching my grandmother's family. Her name was Florence Sussanah Rudd. She came to the states from England about 1907. Her parents were William Rowland Rudd and Mary Ann Buddle. William's father was Benjamin Rudd. They were married 1885 in Parish of Buckland in Kent. Their residence was 3 Union Rd. I have a little bit more on where they lived and their children. William died at home (the mermaid pub)in Dover. Mary's parents were Buddles and Beers. I don't have a mother for William. I appreciate the look up. If you think your family is descended from one of these Irish Rudd brothers, I can look up info for you when I get home from this business trip. I won't be home until 11/3. My branch was in England; Yorkshire if I remember correctly, until about 1630, when my ancestor went to Ireland. There were also Rudds in Ireland as early as the 10th century. A Robert Rudd was Lord of Meath and married the Earl of Clare's daughter in.....the 1300s? It's hard to try to remember this stuff. But, I don't travel with the book. No connection has been made between him and our families; just interesting speculation. And, then they went to Wales. Rudds turn up in northern England in the 16th century and I've got my line back to this family that went from Yorkshire (I think) to Clone, Wexford, in 1630. If this is the book you want, the "intro" part is genealogically specifically about the descendents of two different Rudd couples. But there is interesting information about the Rudds distant cousins of mine who researched in Ireland were able to uncover, like one in the 10th century, but it doesn't tie them to our 10 branches of Irish Rudds descended from 2 men. And, we've never been able to ascertain a relationship between these 2 men. 9 of the branches descend from 1 and mine is from another. My branch is the "other" Rudd; ties in the extensive research of a distant cousin of mine in to this book about Irish Rudds which originally was meant to be a book solely about those other 9 lines who are all related. In recent years, descendents of the English Capt. Jon have been included with the "other" Rudds by the RFRA, and there is some overlap between these lines; some who seem to be descended from both the Irish Rudd and Capt. Jon. It's sort of murky about whether the Rudds were originally Irish who went to England or the other way around, but the book hypothesizes we were red-haired Vikings because Rudd is very close to the Irish word for "red" (ruadh in modern Irish). The Vikings hit both Ireland and England, so ??????? I guess there could have been more than one going back to the 10th century who got that name. Or maybe we're all descended from the same one 1000 years ago. I hope to go myself next year to explore these possibilities, but lack of records will probably never get us past speculation at this point. Too many of "my" Irish Rudd relatives have gone to Ireland (and then to England) and traced down everything there probably is to get. Anyway, the intro to the book is interesting re: the origins of ancient Rudds and what records there are about "early" Rudds regardless of whether you know you're descended from an Irish or an English Rudd........which may end up being one and the same anyway! I think this is not the most coherent message I've ever written. I've had very little sleep. My own father, a Robert Rudd, died last night at the age of 84 and I have to write to the keeper of the records of the RFRA about his death to keep my line up to date in the archives. Sorry if this is babbling; I'm not going to re-do it. I was trying to convey the intro is interesting to any Rudd because it's kind of generic, but the genealogical lines are very specific re: the descendents of 2 men and not useful unless you are descended from one of them.
