Shirley..... My grt-grt-grandfather's name was JAMES W.G.RUDD. The only way I have seen his name in any census has been J.W.G.RUDD, but was fortunate enough, after I found he had moved to my home county, to find two marriage certificates with the first name of JAMES signed, with a very nice signature. NOT scribbled or an "X" like some of my PRESLEY relatives. Not meaning to slight the PRESLEYS. So, saying that, I believe he was an educated person, and not just a backwoodsman wholearned from the bats and the owls. He was the father of HENRY CLAY RUDD, who was the father of JAMES THOMAS MARION RUDD, who was my grandfather. Not sure, but one of JWGR's son's may have been named JAMES also. Could have been JOHN, but he woi;ld have been the only JOHN in the family that I can remember. Thanks for asking....
