Hi, Bev, I looked in stuff that I have and don't find a Thomas Rudd in VT in 1850 census listing; however, there are two in VA (Virginia) in 1850 and one there in 1860. No listings for Thomas E. Rudd. In 1850, one listing is page 191 in Appomattox Co.; the other is on page 173 in Portsmouth, Norfolk Co., VA. In 1860, the listing is on page 792, Richmond E. Div., Henrico Co. If your library can borrow these two censuses you might find some good stuff.
