    3. I believe that this Louisa may be the sister of Asa Rudd, my husband's great grandfather. We believe that Asa is the son of Vincent Rudd who is the son of Johnson Rudd. After Johnson died, his wife moved the famile to Onondaga Co., NY. Asa was born there in 1832. Vincent is living in Switzerland Co., IN in the 1840 census. In the 1850 census Vincent is living in Will Co., IN with one of his daughters. I assume that his wife died sometime between 1840 and 1850. Vincent has a son Erastus age 6 living with him. Asa is in the same county living with his father's sister Olive McDonald. Other children are living with other aunts and uncles. Perhaps the Mary with Laura is another child who stayed with her sister. Of course this is supposition but it might give you some clues as to where to look. Keep me posted if you find anything. 3. I checked Rudd Branches and don't find another Louisa/Louise that could be yours. I would guess that if she came from the Otsego area that she ties in to descendants of Jonathan Rudd, the emigrant. We have many members on the list who have people in the Otsego county area. Good luck, Joann Nichols in Vermont Tks1984@aol.com wrote: > > I'm hoping for some help. I have a Louisa Rudd m. Henry G. Oaks in St Joseph > Cty, IN 11-13-1845. 2. Thanks Celia, Glenn and all of you others who commented on this. I LOVE archeology and everything connected to it. What a thrill when it involvs one's own family! Again, thanks so much. I would have missed it otherwise. Gave up the Nat. Geog. once the kids were on their own, and really miss it. This might be the nudge to get me subscribing to it again. Dot Rudd DuMond

    3. Hi, If you haven't yet read the August 2000 issue of National Geographic, you might be interested to know that Increase Rudd's gr-grandfather, Increase Mosely/Modsley/Maudesley is mentioned. The subject is the recovery of the remains of the ship, Elizabeth and Mary, which was sunk in the English battle against the French at Quebec in 1690. Increase was the key to identifying the wreckage: "Three initials-IMS-seen on the dolphin-decorated handle of a porringer, helped identify the wreck as one from the English fleet commanded by William Phips. "I" and "S" stand for the first names of a married couple. "M" is for their last name. Records reveal one such militiaman aboard the ship; Sgt. Increase Modsley. He and many fellow soldiers never returned from fighting Frontenac's troops." Later in the article: "...Each name represents a family that waited in vain for the owner to return with the fleet to Massachusetts. "Sarah Modsley, widow of the sergeant whose porringer we found, waited 13 years before remarrying," says Grenier." Here's the connection: Increase Mosely (Maudesley)/Sarah Trescott (second husband John Peabody) Increase Mosely, Jr./Mary (Marcy) Hazen Sarah Mosely/Joseph Rudd Increase Rudd/Bathsheba Johnson Celia in Illinois

    3. To all related to Burligham Rudd - here is a question/dilemma: Burlingham Rudd Sr. lived in Anson County North Carolina. His sons, George L and Burlingham Jr also lived there for a while. I have records from Anson County Deed Abstracts that Burlingham Sr gave Burlingham Jr land in Jan 1757. I also have a record that Burlinham (don't know which one, but I assume it is Jr.) married to Elizabeth had three children baptized in the Prince Frederick County in South Carolina in October of 1745. The children listed are Burlingham, Walter, and Martha. Did they briefly go down to SC? Does not make sense to me that they are still listed in Anson County multiple times in the 1750's, and in SC in 1745. Anyone know about this? Anne Barnes
