    3. As I'm sure many of you know, the DAR is not a particularly good source for accurate records. One of my great-grandmothers (on Rudd side) joined in the early 19th century. I have an enormous (truly enormous) certificate she received of which she was horrendously proud. I've had it framed with red, white, and blue matting because it's an heirloom and it was special to her. However, the genealogist she actually PAID to prove her connection got the line all wrong. My mother later straightened it out and thought it "amusing" Grandma was well qualified to be a member, but it under false pretenses. We had bazillion ancestors who fought in the war. It's not "amusing" because I assume the inaccurate genealogy is archived. And, I confess, I've never tried to straighten it out. The DAR didn't check out her claim properly. I guess the man she chose to say she was related to was really in the War, he just didn't happen to be our ancestor. The full line was "passed" and was wrong. And, their were so many correct ones to choose from!! Ellen Rudd ----- Original Message ----- From: "Joann H. As far as I know, he was a carpenter. Do any of you know another C.L. Rudd from Dow City who may have been a merchant? Thank, Betty

    3. My husband's Rudd links to John Alden of the Mayflower. It goes like this: John Alden/Priscilla Mullins Joseph Alden/Mary Simmons Joseph Alden (Deacon)/Hannah Dunham Eleazear Alden/ Martha Shaw Johnathan Alden/Experience Hayward Randall Wheeler/ Experience Alden Erastus Rudd/Experience (Speedy)Wheeler Sidney Rigdon Rudd/Mary Prather Cyrus Levi Rudd/Florence Wood Frank Gomez/Ruth Ione Rudd etc. The Alden Mayflower book lists my entries down to Johnathan Alden and Experience Hayward...I am looking for verification for the remainder. Obviously, I can get documentation for several through personal files...but I wondered if any of you have gone through the procedure of joining the Mayflower Society. Any help would be appreciated.

    2. Dear Celia: Both Joseph Rudd, Sr and Jr are DAR Patriots. About 25 of our family "went in" to DAR on Jr, and I discovered that a lady had proved Sr., but her papers were "closed". Finally tracked her down and got permission to open Sr's papers. Discovered almost no info on them, so completed them almost entirely and reentered them as my ancestor too. Don't know if I have copies of both papers or not. If not, our local chapter has them, as I put them there myself. Thanks for the offer. I've copied it off for future reference. Thanks also for all of the wonderful things you do for the rest of our gang. Dot DuMond

    1. Re: [RUDD] Revolutionary Rudds
    2. Burlingham, the Rev. soldier buried in Marysville, TN, is descended from Burlingham Rudd b. 1704 Eng., emigrant to colonies in 1728. There is still little substantiated evidence as to Burlingham III parentage, a well as Elias David Rudd and several other Burlingham and George (Lounsdale and Washington as middle names) Rudds descended of the original Burlingham. This is due to the naming pattern (use of names Burl. and Geo. over and over, sometimes 2 sons of one father named Burl.) plus inaccurate census and deed transcriptions. I and others are finding a lot of Rudd information in old SC and NC using the last name Reed...transcribers looked at the U in Rudd and mistook it for 2 E's, thus Reed. Hope that will help some of you look for your Rudds and please share with all of us if you make finds. If you put Burlingham Reed into ancestry.com, you will find him listed in several places we have ben able to find him (them) before, same with George Reed, Elias Reed in SC...right there where George and Elias Rudd were with same numbers and correct ages, etc. in the census. Happy hunting. 3. Thanks Betty! I also have some information that I will be sharing with the group as soon as I can. The NSDAR has a "members only" web site with access to the DAR Patriot's List. I printed out all the Rudds and will share with y'all when I get them transcribed. Funny how I found out about the "members only" area (it's not linked from their regular web site). I volunteered (I know, I should learn to say 'no' - LOL) to put a web site on-line for our local chapter and maintain it. As part of this, I had to be given access to this "members only" area. 2. Thanks Carol, I have both of the wills also. In reading the will of Burlingham you'll see it refers to a marriage contract, a prenuptial I think. I have been notified by the SC Archives there is something called a marriage settlement on record there, so I'm sending for a copy. It should be interesting to see what the arrangements were before they married. It will probably take about 4 weeks to get it, but when I do, I'll post it to the mail list! Thanks again, Linda
