    3. Thanks for all the responses. I just started working this line and I guess I should have been a little more specific. I have only the two RUDDs, Johnathan and his daughter Mary in my line. Thomas and Mary's son, Samuel Bingham married Faith RIPLEY and had Jerusha BINGHAM who married Benjamin ROBINSON. Their daughter Jerusha ROBINSON, married Thomas BARROWS and had Salmon BARROWS who married second, Sally DIMICK. Their daughter, Joanna BARROWS married my ggrandfather Elias Perkins HAYNES as his second wife and I descend from them. The two things I'm looking for are dates/documentation/legitimate sources for the RUDD/ BINGHAM info that I have and if anyone had any background on Jonathan RUDD. Thank you so much for responding. janice

    3. You aren't to give them your password you use, you should be making up a password to log onto their system -- that's all -- it's not big brother! Just like any services you use you need a password to log into their system. Any word will do (make up a new one) -- you should NEVER give out your password for internet services EVER! 3. In a message dated 98-05-05 17:31:19 EDT, you write: << Looking for info on Johathan RUDD and his wife, Mary METCALF. I know of one child, Mary RUDD, born in New London, CT c.1648, married Thomas BINGHAM, 12 Dec 1666 in Norwich, CT and died in Norwich 4 Aug 1726. Is anyone working this line or connected to it? >> Hi Janice, This is one of my husband's maternal lines. I think you will receive several responses from this list from people much more knowledgeable than I am, but I wonder how you descend from Thomas BINGHAM. My husband descension from the RUDD line is from Mary RUDD/Thomas BINGHAM, Mary BINGHAM/John BACKUS, Mary BACKUS/Joshua RIPLEY Jr, Mary RIPLEY/Joshua ABBE. I am always happy to share what I have, but have only been researching for about 4 years. Susan - Arkansas

    3. Hi guys and gals! I'm very pleased that Celia has our new list up and running so well. I'm also glad we're starting to converse again. I thought everybody had thrown their computers away or something! A couple of observations...first, with regard to the "username and password" requirements on the land patent website. They only ask for a username and password so they can make their site more secure, by having people log in and out. You can MAKE UP a username, and use ANY PASSWORD you want. This username and password has NOTHING WHATSOEVER to do with any passwords you use for the internet, e-mail, or anything else. I'm one of the most wary of giving info out over the net, but this one isn't worrisome at all. I went to the site today, and looked at the Rudd stuff in Michigan as well as some Burnett records in Indiana. When you go on their site, you can get an ACTUAL IMAGE of the land patent document that you can work with on the computer. They have a "viewer" that you can download and use, that costs $10 to register, or you can right-click on the "view document" link, and select "Save target as" ( in internet explorer). This lets you save the image as a .tif file, and just about any imaging program will open it so you can view it and print it. I've downloaded about ten of the Burnett files, and if anyone wants any of the Rudd files, and is "technologically challenged", let me know and I'll download it and e-mail it to you. Second...I'm going to post a copy of the Rudd family tree (what I have, that is) to Family Tree Maker sometime in the next couple of weeks. Let me know if you have anything to append to my file, or you want to comment or help. Thanks to all of you for your help and generosity in the last few months. I've linked up to the line clear back to Jonathan, thanks to Celia, Joann, Susan, Cheryl, and a host of other good folks who've cared enough to share. My grandma would be proud! My rollcall, for you latecomers, is: Jonathan Rudd==Mary (?) (or ??) Nathaniel Rudd==Abigail Hartshorn Joseph Rudd==Sarah Mosely Increase Rudd==Bathsheba Johnson Johnson Rudd==Abigail Brown Barak Rudd==Livonia Atwood Alonzo Rudd==Charlotte Empie Arthur Rudd==Berneicia Ralstin Ethel Rudd==Ralph Burnett Doris Burnett==Charles Stephenson Kevin Stephenson Kevin K. TIA. > > janice Hi, Janice, Welcome to the list! Jonathan Rudd and his wife have been discussed several times, but it's good to go over it periodically. The name of Jonathan's wife is unknown. The Mary Metcalf that the Bingham genealogy claims was his wife was not. I do not have the info readily available to quote, but I'm sure someone else will also reply. Many of us are descended from Jonathan Rudd. Personally, I am from him, his son Nathaniel and second wife, Abigail Hartshorn, Joseph(3) and Sarah Mosely, Increase(4) and Bathsheba Johnson, Silas(5) and Phebe Herrick, Increase(6) and Lydia Cole, Julia(7) and Miner Bromley, etc. What is your line? 3. Frank and Rudd Cousins: I don't see why you should have to give your password. I have the GLO-CDs for WI, OH and MN. Will do lookups from them. And, thanks to Cousin Joann, I read an article on how to order copies of land entry files. If you find a relative on the GLO lists, you can email to the National Archives, request NATF Form 84, and for $10 order a copy of all the supporting documents in their case files. I have just sent away for records for my Howe relative in WI, so don't know what I will receive. These files may contain all of the paperwork relating to the purchase of the land. http://www.nara.gov will take you there. 3. Hi Frank, Nothing to do with online grants, but I noticed your Email name, and the obvious similarity to my Email name, brood. Mine is for Billie Rood. My husband's father's name was originally Ruud, from Norway , which was changed to Rood, and I was wondering what the derivation of Rudd is. I signed up for the Rudd rootsweb to get information on that very subject. Hope you don't mind my asking. Thanks, Billie Rood [email protected] -----Original Message----- From: FRudd <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Tuesday, May 05, 1998 4:17 AM Subject: Re: Online Land Grant Info >

    3. Hi R-Gang Cousins, Check out the following website: http:www.glorecords.blm.gov/ You can access and copy actual images of the original land grant records. It's searchable by surname, etc. and they have the following states available: <paraindent><param>right,left,out</param>Alabama Land Patents Arkansas Land Patents Florida Land Patents Indiana Land Patents Louisiana Land Patents Michigan Land Patents Minnesota Land Patents Mississippi Land Patents Missouri Land Patents Ohio Land Patents Wisconsin Land Patents </paraindent> It's free - you do have to register some information (user id, password), but then it's all free. I did a search for Rudd in Michigan and there about 25 results - Anson, Barker, Marverick, etc. Indiana had two - names not familiar to me. Have fun! Celia Celia

I'm planning a major expansion to my website in the near future, and I'm considering posting the Rudd tree (as well as the Burnett tree) to Family Tree Maker's website. Anyone wishing to comment or contribute, please let me know. I have two finals left, and then a week off. Planning to do some 'digging', with my 98-year-old great-uncle, into the roots. More later.
