I have been checking to see if I could find who your Willis Rudd was, and I have found him! >From a document, which we on the Rudd Family List believe was prepared by Lucy Keller (she has quite a few typing errors), there is a Myllys Rudd (I'm sure she means Wyllys/Willis) who was born Oct. 19, 1796, married (1) Feb. 19, 1823, Elizabeth Peggs, born in Hoosick, New York, Oct. 23, 1799, a daughter of Nathaniel and ----- (Stone) Peggs of Western, NY, in which town they settled, and where Mrs. Rudd d. Aug. 5, 1853. The widower married (2) Jan. 29, 1857, Mrs. Alnvina[sic] (Arthur) Scoville, b. June 8, 1805, a daughter of Bradford and Rhuanna (Ely) Arthur of Martinsburgh, NY, and widow of Alfred Scoville of Lee, NY. I would guess that Willis and Alvina did not have any Rudd children together. Willis' ancestry is Nathaniel(5) and Naomi St. John, Jonathan(4) and Esther Tyler, Nathaniel(3) and Rebecca Waldo, Jonathan(2) and Marcy Bushnell, Jonathan(1) and unknown wife. 3. Recently I made a trip to FL to look up ancestors buried in several cemetaries there. I was very lucky and found several generations and related lines back to mid 1700's. But many of the headstones where covered with algee which interferred with the clarity of the photos. Anybody have suggestions on what is the best way to clean these headstones and not damage them. I thought that a baking soda mixture might work, I use this on my treated wood deck, but don't have any experience in the area of headstones. On my return trip I want to make a point of cleaning the headstones and leaving flowers on all of the graves. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Private e-mail at [email protected], but think the list might be interested also. By the way, a cousin suggested I not only take still pictures of the graves sites but also video tape the headstones while narrating the information written on them. What a great idea! I'm so glad I did that too. It has come in very handy since I got home in trying to read the pictures and adding information too my files. Thanks, Linda Rudd

    3. Hi again Celia: I have tried to pick out the relevant material on the list, that would apply to me and mine....grin. Hopefully, I don't miss something. I truly appreciate all of your wonderful efforts, and hope that you will let me know as soon as you can how much I can send to cover costs. I wish I were in a position to just send a large donation, but unfortunately that is not possible at this time. I see that the list of family group sheets are very long - did you want us to pick out particular individual groups we were interested in, or just get the whole batch under the one number - e.g. #19 or #20....... 3. Hi R-Gang Cousins! Well, here it is - the complete listing of items received from the Marie Hogle Collection (see below). #1-17 are repeats of my earlier postings; #18-#45 are new. I guess I'm ready to take orders for copies (not really looking forward to that Xerox machine - oh well! <<grin>). Please use the numbers to cite which ones you want and don't forget to include your snailmail address. Even if you've written before requesting copies, please do so again so that I can try to keep it all straight. Thanks! For now, Celia PS: For those who don't know the history. 3. The 1850 Hamburg, Erie Co., NY census taken Aug. 6, 1850, has the following on page 36: 533/534 Bradley Rudd, age 31, Cannaller, b. VT Lorinda 31 NY James 8 NY Edgar 7 NY Morris 5 NY Allen 4 NY Harlow 2 NY Charles 1/12 NY Does anyone recognize this family? I am wondering if this Bradley Rudd could be the Bradford Rudd who is listed in the History of Danby as the son of Increase(6) and Lydia (Cole) Rudd. Increase and Lydia and several of their children and families went out to Collins in Erie Co. One son, Joel, went to Hamburg, so it would be logical for other members of the family to go there. A daugher of Increase and Lydia, Sybil m. Timothy Taylor; one of their sons was named Bradley Taylor. Any ideas on this will be gratefully received! Joann Nichols [email protected]

    3. Celia- After some reflection, I tend to agree with Joann on limiting name variations in the list. We've got enough RUDD's to keep us busy well into the next milennium without expanding to variations, especially since the known immigrant ancestors that are connected all spelled it Rudd, as far as we know. Perhaps we can list the various Rudd's from that book. --Van Rudd (descendant of James Rudd of Maryland, circa. 1780. Don't have a birthdate on him yet...)

    3. Hi Cheryl, One possibility for the Jonathan mentioned here could be Ensign Jonathan Rudd - lineage: Jonathan Rudd/Mary ? Jonathan Rudd, Jr./Mercy Bushnell Captain Nathaniel Rudd/Rebekah Waldo Captain Jonathan Rudd/Esther Tyler Ensign Jonathan Rudd/(1)Mary Tracy, (2) Amy Tyler Quote from the Lucy Keller? "History of the Rudd Family": "To the Lexington alarm, at the outbreak of the Revolution, Ensign Rudd responded promptly." His father, Captain Jonathan Rudd's service (as quoted from the same reference): "In October, 1745, he was appointed Ensign of the Second Company of Train band of Windham, and in October 1750, he received his commission as Lieutenant. In May 1757, he became the Captain of the Third Company of the Fifth Regiment of the Colony. Captain Rudd represented Windham in the General Assembly at the regular sessions of October 1754, May 1760, October 1762, and May 1754 and at the special sittings of January and March 1755 and march 1762." I believe Captain Jonathan would have been too old to have served in the Revolutionary War - he was born 27 Nov 1710 (death date unknown). Another possibility would be Jonathan Rudd b. 20 May 1756 who married Mary Huntington: Jonathan Rudd/Mary ? Nathaniel Rudd/Mary Post Jonathan Rudd/Joanna Gregory Samuel Rudd/Laurene Fitch Jonathan Rudd/Mary Huntington There is no mention of Rev. War service, however. Another possibility is Jonathan Rudd b. 13 Sep 1733; d. 17 Mar 1777 *at Norwich of Smallpox* who married Tabitha Ormsby: Jonathan Rudd/Mary ? Nathaniel Rudd/Mary Post Jonathan Rudd/Joanna Gregory Jonathan Rudd/Tabitha Ormsby Celia At 8:10 PM -0700 5/5/98, Martin Cretin wrote: >I was just checking out one of Ancestry's free databases on Graves of >Revolutionary Patriots.
